U.S. Attorney SC

As part of Freedom 250, United States Attorneys’ offices are honoring a Hometown Hero. Today, we were proud to recognize Captain Robert Johnson. As a @SCDCNews captain, he embodied integrity and dedication. Sixteen years ago, inmates targeted him for strictly enforcing contraband rules. Sean Echols ambushed Johnson in his home, shooting him six times and leaving him for dead. Captain Johnson miraculously survived and has since endured 37 surgeries. SLED and @FBIColumbia investigated, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stacey Haynes and William Witherspoon prosecuted Echols, who was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison in 2014. Thank you, Captain Johnson—you are truly our hometown hero.
