For years, we've talked about how to improve player development in this country while overlooking something sitting right in front of us: college soccer. I've lived that experience, and I firmly believe we have an opportunity to build the best U23 soccer environment in the world. Think about what already exists. Incredible facilities, high-level competition, access to an education, and an enormous commercial market that soccer has barely scratched. Now imagine giving those players a season that actually makes sense. More time to develop, more recovery, fewer academic disruptions, and a schedule that creates real value for fans, broadcasters, and sponsors. I understand why some university presidents are hesitant, but soccer shouldn't be viewed through the same lens as every other college sport. Its challenges, opportunities, and potential are different. We keep asking how American soccer can take the next step. Maybe part of the answer isn't building something new, but finally realizing the value of what we already have.
