Tribute to Professor Takanori Fukushima
Legend. Master. Mentor. Teacher. Innovative pioneer who went against the grain to make huge contributions in skull base surgery. Inspired and influenced generations of neurosurgeons to believe that you can make the “inoperable” become “operable”. I had the good fortune of meeting Taka in 2001 when I participated in his skull base course in West Palm Beach as a young second-year resident. From that point on, my mind was enlightened and my world would never be the same. “You must learn to operate, no push button surgery.” He promoted the concept of super micron-neurosurgery and designed purposeful micro-instrumentation to help neurosurgeons around the world perform surgery at their highest level. His passion and commitment to neurosurgery and his patients were contagious. Not one complex brain surgery operation goes by without channeling your inner Fukushima. Taka, you will be greatly missed. #FukushimaMafia forever! – at Florham Park, NJ
