Tobacco industry interference does not stop when legislation passes. Indonesia’s experience shows how influence can shift to implementation, taxation, and local regulation. #GTI2025 dissemination series: Today, we spotlight how countries are restricting tobacco industry money in politics. The Global Tobacco Industry Interference Index 2025 found that more than 20 countries have banned or restricted tobacco industry donations to political campaigns. Restricting political donations helps protect public health policies from tobacco industry interference and reduces the risk of industry money shaping decisions that should serve the public interest. Science must guide policy, not tobacco and nicotine industry interests. The WHO review of nicotine must be rigorous, transparent and free from industry influence, including influence exercised through funded researchers, front groups and other proxies. #ProtectYouth

#GTI2025 dissemination series: Today, we spotlight how diplomatic channels can be used to promote tobacco industry interests. The Global Tobacco Industry Interference Index 2025 recorded at least five government missions promoting or endorsing the tobacco industry, giving tobacco companies privileged access and benefits through public resources. When diplomatic missions promote tobacco companies, public resources can become tools for advancing private industry interests instead of protecting public health. Real solutions, not tobacco industry narratives. “Harm reduction” marketing, CSR, ESG, EPR and greenwashing must not be used to give the tobacco industry legitimacy, access or influence. Add your voice, share the Open Letter, and help carry these demands toward COP12.

#GTI2025 dissemination series: Today, we spotlight how tax delays and preferential treatment can benefit the tobacco industry. The Global Tobacco Industry Interference Index 2025 found that more than 60 countries did not raise tobacco taxes, delayed tax increases, lowered tax rates, or gave tax exemptions and discounts that benefited the tobacco industry. The report highlights how delays in tobacco tax measures and preferential treatment for tobacco products can create a more favorable business environment for the industry, despite tobacco taxation being recognized as one of the most effective tobacco control measures. Explore how government incentives continue to benefit the tobacco industry through the Global Tobacco Industry Interference Index 2025: globaltobaccoindex.org/gti/2… Watch out for more key findings from the #GTI2025. #GlobalTobaccoIndex #TobaccoInterference #exposetobacco @exposetobacco

New research sheds light on how tobacco industry strategies extended beyond #cigarettes. Internal company documents suggest that #PhilipMorris applied its product development and marketing playbook to help shape Lunchables, designing them to appeal to children and their caregivers. The findings highlight how corporate tactics can influence consumer behavior and why protecting children from industry-driven marketing remains a public health priority. #BigTobaccoExposed #ProtectOurYouth #PublicHealthFirst #NoTobacco Read more: theexamination.org/articles/…

Ahead of #WorldNoTobaccoDay2026, a group of @GYV_movement members who participated in GGTC-supported AI Advocacy Bootcamp came together to raise their voices against the tobacco industry's latest playbook. From colourful packaging and appealing flavours to influencer marketing and misleading "harm reduction" narratives, new nicotine products are being designed and promoted to attract a new generation of users. Using the advocacy, policy, and digital storytelling skills, these young advocates developed this collective message to expose the tactics behind the appeal and call for stronger action to protect youth from nicotine addiction. The message is clear: addiction isn't accidental. It's engineered. Young people are demanding that governments place a comprehensive ban on all tobacco and nicotine products and reject industry tactics designed to normalize addiction among future generations. Lobbying and policy manipulation are among the tobacco industry’s most persistent tactics to protect profits and resist stronger regulation. From funding research that creates doubt, to using front groups to shape public opinion, to pressuring governments through legal and political tactics, tobacco industry interference continues to undermine effective public health action around the world. These strategies are designed to delay safeguards, weaken tobacco control measures, and keep harmful products on the market for as long as possible. This #WorldNoTobaccoDay2026, exposing tobacco industry interference means recognizing how influence is built behind closed doors — and why protecting public health requires stronger safeguards against industry manipulation. #TobaccoExposed #UnmaskTheAppeal
