Should an EP recommend mainstream or specialist school? Not necessarily. Their report should clearly identify your child's needs and required provision. If you're seeking a specialist school, ask the EP whether mainstream can realistically meet those needs.

Waiting for an ADHD diagnosis? You can still request an EHC needs assessment. Under Section 36(8) of the Children and Families Act 2014, the test is whether your child has or may have SEN and may need provision through an EHCP. A diagnosis isn't required. #EHCP #SEND #ADHD

LA missed the six week EHC assessment decision deadline? Regulation 5(1) of the SEND Regulations 2014 requires the LA to respond within six weeks, subject to limited exceptions. If they've missed it, make a formal complaint, copying in the Director of Children's Services.

Gentle parenting with an ADHD child? Yes! But gentle doesn't mean permissive. Children with ADHD still need clear boundaries, consistency and appropriate consequences. Consequences should be fair, proportionate and adapted to their needs, not simply punishment. #ADHD #SEND

How much funding will my child get? I think parents are dragged into funding disputes between schools and LAs far too often. Your concern should be that Section F is accurate and delivered. Under Section 42, the LA must secure that provision, regardless of funding disputes.
