Welcome back physics students! It was an exciting year for space and we hope your physics journey in this academic year will be filled with the same wonder and excitement that all the lecturers feel about these events!
Happy first week back!

Congratulations to Michal Szerszen on his award of best final year project on the BSc (Hons) in Physics for Modern Technology. Michal's project implemented and compared algorithms for interplanetary trajectory calculations. This award is kindly sponsored by Bausch + Lomb.
SETU physics society and staff had an amazing time at the annual IOP Spring Conference held at the Tower, Waterford City! What a great way to showcase science and physics here in the East Coast!
Fun little game thanks to our physics Technician! Can you guess any of these 3 pieces of physics equipment?
Here we show a fun little demonstration of energy needed to power different LEDs! Do you remember your electromagnetic spectrum?
Welcome back students to SETU and welcome new scientists! We hope you're as excited about University as we're excited to teach! #setu

🌎 @EPAIreland and Waterford City and County Council, today launched Clean Air Together Waterford, a citizen science project to measure air quality in #Waterford.
Four hundred people, businesses and community groups across Waterford City and environs are needed to sign up to help measure levels of the air pollutant Nitrogen Dioxide this autumn. Kicking off in October, the project will help us better understand air quality in Waterford city, and what needs to be done to improve it.
These ‘Citizen Scientists’ will use small measurement tubes to assess levels of Nitrogen Dioxide, a major traffic-related pollutant known to be harmful to our health and the environment. Together with all of the other data collected, these measurements will give a detailed snapshot of air pollution from traffic in the city.

Well done to all involved.
Our first paper, "Dosimetric implications of human ingestion of the natural radionuclide polonium-210 from commercially important and edible seaweeds", has just been published on results from 12 seaweed species and found no risk from seaweed consumption.

Some very successful soil sampling was undertaken last week for a fourth year physics project @SETUIreland. Many thanks to Sara Vero for the loan of the soil auguer which allowed us to take soil cores down to 1m. Results will be very useful for our EPA-funded GRaDE project.
