Lying about the safer alternative, Cryo, lies at the heart of the Infected Blood Scandal In the 1970s, commercial entities sold HIV & Hepatitis infected Factor VIII blood products. Unlike Cryo, which was reasonably safe, Factor VIII was a hazardous pharmaceutical product sold for cash. Every bottle of Factor VIII was infected with Hepatitis C. Cryo was used by people with haemophilia at home, it was effective, severe haemophiliacs used it and allergic reactions were rare. Yet, once the infected blood scandal came to light, those responsible began to lie. They said they had to use Factor VIII because Cryo didn't work, couldn't be used at home and could only be used for those with mild haemophilia, but none of this was true. Cryospiracy is a short film I made at Uni that contrasts the evidence of the 1960s (When Cryo was the primary treatment for haemophilia) against what many of those involved in the scandal said for decades. It was a £0 budget project, but hopefully, it helps to show how part of this cover-up worked.
