Eddie McGuire was brought up as a Catholic as his mother was an Irish Catholic immigrant to Australia.
You probably all know “Celtic FC” is a ⚽️ club formed by Irish Catholic immigrants in Glasgow Scotland.
Attached info/photos about the Irish Catholics in Melb ⬇️

Soooo,
whether it’s Marconi Stallions ⚽️ in Sydney, or Celtic FC ⚽️ in Glasgow Scotland, or Collingwood FC 🏉 in Melbourne, clubs in time all morph into the mainstream 🤓
We’re very lucky in Australia to have such a rich tapestry of ⚽️ clubs 👍

Just some additional background for fans to ponder 😊
Obviously clubs bring together different parts of society.
Many might not know that the great & mighty 👊 Collingwood AFL club was heavily associated with the Irish Catholics of Melbourne from 1920s onwards.

After the #AustraliaCup Final, every “relatively #EmptyDerby” is just going to feel perpetually inferior no? 🤔

👌 🎥 @stivCONNECTED with ok-to-good resolution when zooming. A margin of error of approx. 9.5%.
Hard to believe this #FAKE⚽️ attendance was any more than 4,000-5,000 odd, & I note, they’ve yet to declare an attendance online! Wonder why no? 🤔🤥
Unequivocally, #FAKE⚽️ is a sham no? 🤔

A-Leagues look past Man City distraction to ‘showpiece’ Melb derby theguardian.com/football/202…
Two Carnegie quotes from this CFG promotion piece. I say that knowing @jacksongs is a good journo.
"What we need is for people to come along and support, and then it will snowball from there.”
"This is a really good opportunity for us to get people in to see what we’re all about, and then hopefully, we can convert them into people who are coming to other games”
How to do things back to front and leave out the rest of the clubs and fans while these champs, given ownership of tier 1 and control of the tiers below, lament that all they need is fans (!), who must surely turn up at some point, and happily change models until they make some cash.
No need to seek the view or @FootballAUS ofcourse. It gave away our top tier like it was its to give.
Nope, leave us at the mercy of for profit, private owners, including the most guilty of ⚽️ guilty - they can "look past" that after all since since they is them who own it.
So, the rest of us need to look after ourselves too since we've been cast adrift.
