Yesterday at the IATF2025 Media Sensitisation Workshop, a panel of experts explored how media can shape Africa’s trade and integration story.
The session brought together journalists, trade experts, and financial leaders to unpack some of the continent’s most important tools for growth:
🔹 Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) – ensuring faster, cheaper, and more efficient cross-border transactions.
🔹 SME Development – unlocking opportunities for Africa’s entrepreneurs.
🔹 Trade Facilitation – breaking down barriers to intra-African commerce.
🔹 AfCFTA – turning the vision of “One African Market” into reality.
We had powerful insights from:

Intra-African Trade: Beyond the Numbers
At the Opening Ceremony of #IATF2025 in Algiers, H.E. Wamkele Mene @MeneWamkele, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat @AfCFTA, celebrated Africa’s progress while challenging us to aim higher.
In 2024, intra-African trade surged to US$220 billion, a 12.5% increase from the previous year. But as he reminded us: “The true success of the IATF @iatf2025 is not in the numbers. It is in the jobs created, in the women entrepreneurs supported, in the SMEs empowered, and in the opportunities for young entrepreneurs.”
This year’s theme, “A Gateway to New Opportunities,” captures Africa’s collective ambition to accelerate digital trade, strengthen value chains, and advance industrial growth. It is a call to turn ambition into action, ensuring that the AfCFTA delivers not just statistics, but transformation.
