A lot of people have argued that the $100 Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 is the actual version Take-Two wanted to release, but cut out minor things to release an $80 version so as to avoid some of the backlash. However, this begs the question: How much is acceptable for a new game?

A lot has changed since then, as it pertains to fans and Rockstar Games. As much as I hate to admit it, Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption were nowhere near the powerhouses that GTA V and RDR 2 were, respectively. For sure, Rockstar was famous and extremely popular, but since 2013, they have very much become on the same level as something like Fortnite. I’m not saying that their company and the brands that they produced weren’t popular and well-known gamers, but it’s that the pop culture scene as a whole had not necessarily embraced them as much as what we saw with the release of GTA V. Something that also added fuel to this fire was that companies that had produced almost direct competitors to their titles started to disappear. Franchises like True Crime, Crackdown, and Saint Row either lost the majority of their steam or disappeared entirely. However, something that really tossed dynamite in the flames was GTA Online being so insanely popular that helped to drive sales numbers and revenue produced to almost astronomical levels. Say what you want about the hype leading up to GTA V, but it was nowhere near on the level that the hype for GTA 6 has been – and whatever comes down the road, if they do it right, the hype is gonna be even crazier than it has been the past few years.
