My latest piece in @newlinesmag reflecting on the complex relationship between the Jewish-American community & #Israel & whether this relationship can survive in its current form #ShireenAbuAkleh’s killing if there is no accountability/justice for her or the #Palestinian people
NEW: Peace is necessary for Palestinians and Jews alike — we must start by demanding accountability for the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh. A personal reflection on being Jewish American by @SSiminoff for @newlinesmag newlinesmag.com/first-person…

If these exit poll results hold up, the big question will be whether the Eisenkot-led 'change bloc' is truly committed to change because it will have to rely on the parliamentary support of Arab-majority parties to govern. If it isn't willing to do that, then Netanyahu will remain caretaker prime minister until another election takes place.

Golan Druze turnout nearly doubled to 44% this time around, compared with an average turnout of 57.5% for Israeli Druze villages.
Another small but fascinating group to watch tomorrow: the Golan Druze. In 2022, only a sixth were Israeli citizens - and just a quarter of those voted. But their relationship with Israel has shifted dramatically since then. How that translates into votes remains to be seen.

Eisenkot: “The initial exit poll results point to an unequivocal lack of confidence in Netanyahu and the government responsible for October 7, on the part of the Zionist majority and the majority of Israeli citizens. I will act immediately to implement the people’s verdict, replace Netanyahu’s government, and establish a Zionist government, as soon as possible.”
🚨🚨🚨Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right coalition is projected to lose its parliamentary majority, but his opponent Gadi Eisenkot's bloc is short of 61 seats, according to Israeli exit polls. My report on @axios axios.com/2026/10/27/netanya…

💥"The polling results prove that all the Bloc of Change needs to do to form a government is to make a simple decision - to decide that the Arabs in the country are, well, legitimate citizens."

The biggest development in this election was the success of the Arab-majority parties, which are projected to win a combined 17 seats, driven by a very high turnout among Arab voters. This means that the most likely way for the Eisenkot-led opposition bloc to form a government will be as a minority government, dependent on the outside support of the Arab parties. There is a precedent for this - from 1993-1995, Yitzhak Rabin’s coalition government was a minority government with outside support from Arab parties.

If Israel's current exit polls hold, the parties representing the Jewish center will have to make a choice: partner with Arab parties or else keep Bibi in power. A pretty clear metaphor for the choice facing Israel more broadly.

Initial results from Israel show clearly that the opposition bloc is a few seats ahead of Netayanu's. The two Arab-majority lists will get 17 or 18 seats together and hold balance of power. Israeli liberals now face a clear choice: work with Arabs if you want to oust Bibi.

Netanyahu has essentially cannibalised his partners to get the empty title in a coalition state of “largest party”
One thing Netanyahu has been good at in previous elections is sucking votes away from his far-right partners, without pushing them below the threshold. This doesn’t change the overall size of his camp, but if it makes him the largest party in the Knesset, it serves his narrative
