USDA confirms first detection of New World Screwworm in U.S. wildlife. 🚨
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (@USDA_APHIS) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed the first detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in an elk in Pecos County, TX. The elk was located on a game ranch and was reported after being harvested by a hunter.
As hunting seasons continue across Texas and other states, hunters are encouraged to stay alert for signs of NWS when observing, harvesting, or processing wildlife.
🦌 Visible maggots (larvae) in wounds or body openings
🦌 Open, draining, or enlarging wounds and foul-smelling injuries
🦌 Animals that appear weak, lethargic, isolated, or in distress
🦌 Signs of infestation around the nose, mouth, ears, eyes, or genital areas
If you see anything suspicious, report it immediately. Fast reporting helps animal health officials respond quickly and helps limit the pest's spread. For information on identifying and reporting potential cases in wildlife, please see USDA's wildlife resources at Screwworm.gov Wildlife Information. The site includes signs to watch for, reporting guidance, and additional resources for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts.
Together, we can help protect America's wildlife, livestock, and natural resources from New World screwworm.

SCI-PAC proudly endorses Representative Harriet Hageman (R-WY-At Large) for the United States Senate seat in Wyoming.
Representative Hageman’s background as a water, natural resources, and constitutional attorney informs her work in Congress. She and Representative Tom Tiffany (R-WI-07) introduced the Fixing Egregiously Expensive Suits Act of 2026 (H.R. 9536), which takes direct aim at legal mechanisms that let well-funded environmental groups tie up land and wildlife management in taxpayer-funded litigation, restoring the Equal Access to Justice Act to its original purpose.
Her commitment to multiple-use, sustained-yield land management, prioritizing access, development, and conservation together rather than as tradeoffs, is exactly the framework hunters deserve and need in Wyoming. With this endorsement, SCI-PAC is proud to support Representative Hageman as a strong voice for hunting and conservation in Wyoming. 🔗 safariclub.org/sci-pac-endor…
SCI-PAC proudly endorses Representative Nick Begich (R-AK-At Large) for reelection. Representative Begich, an SCI member, has been a consistent voice for hunters and for sound, science-based wildlife management since taking office.
As a member on the House Committee on Natural Resources, he has worked to protect access to public lands, defend the tools and traditions that make responsible hunting possible, and push back against federal overreach that threatens both wildlife management authority and the rural Alaskan way of life.
With this endorsement, SCI-PAC is proud to support Representative Begich as a strong voice for hunting and conservation in Alaska. 🔗 safariclub.org/sci-pac-endor…

SCI-PAC proudly endorses Representative Pete Stauber (R-MN-08) for reelection.
Representative Stauber, a former law enforcement officer and lifelong outdoorsman, has advocated to give wildlife managers more flexibility instead of rigid federal mandates. He was a bold supporter of the Endangered Species Act Amendments Act of 2025, securing an amendment that requires federal agencies to coordinate with state, local, and tribal governments before making species listing decisions.
With this endorsement, SCI-PAC is proud to support Representative Stauber as a strong voice for hunting and conservation in Minnesota. 🔗 safariclub.org/sci-pac-endor…
Modern technology can certainly help a hunter in the field, but don’t let it detract from why you’re there in the first place.
Technology can make us more effective, but it can’t produce a profound appreciation of nature in someone. It also does nothing to add to the experience of simply sitting quietly in the woods. For a moment like that, all you truly need is a rifle, ammo, and a knife.

Amendment 83 Gaining Momentum in Colorado! 🚨
The November 3rd election is now only TWO weeks away, and Amendment 83 continues to gain strong momentum to make Colorado the 25th state to provide constitutional protections for hunting and fishing.
In recent weeks, numerous coalitions, organizations, and associations have come out in support of the Right to Hunt and Fish ballot initiative. The Colorado Wildlife Conservation Partnership, an alliance of over 20 organizations that collectively represents tens of thousands of hunters and anglers from across the state, recently issued a position statement in support of Amendment 83. Additionally, the amendment is now also supported by the Colorado Wildlife Employees Protective Association, an association of current and former Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) employees and officers, and the American Sportfishing Association.
SCI remains in strong support of the initiative, supporting it both financially and on the ground through grassroots efforts with our partners. To get involved in this effort and help protect Colorado’s hunting and fishing heritage for generations to come, please contact SCI Western State and Local Liaison Keely Hopkins at [email protected].

SCI-PAC proudly endorses Aaron Flint for election to Montana’s 1st Congressional District. Flint has approached conservation as an area of common ground rather than partisan conflict over public lands.
Flint has pledged to keep public lands in public hands and will not allow them to be sold off for private use. He has called for better management of western Montana’s forests to improve big game habitat and hunting opportunities, and he supports wildlife crossings on highways to cut down on wildlife-vehicle collisions.
