gossip (read) priority fees on hyperliquid are broken currently the team that is benefitting the most is wintermute (insert fist shaking red emoji guy meme) this is not publicly known but can be determined with certainty by mapping out transfers to labeled wallets from the top winner of the gossip priority fee auctions (they have won 79% of the slot 0 auctions in the past 24h) tldr; wahhh wahhhh wahhh hl gossip priority, not fair. add more slots or scrap the gossip auction my proposed solution: 1) increase gossip priority to 20 equal-priority slots 2) make it so winning an auction slot grants IP whitelisting to a foundation-run peering slot i think this basically solves it and would likely *increase* total gossip priority fees --- some context the purported intention, as stated in the docs, is to "reduce the need for market makers to hyper-optimize their infrastructure to remain competitive" if you win the gossip auction slot, you get order book / node data 50ms (!!) faster than anyone else. yes. one IP, across the *entire network*, gets the feeds 50ms faster. it's the whole ballgame so in theory you could just buy the faster data slot instead of spending 10s of thousands monthly on high octane ec2 instances and [insert hft magic] or you can do BOTH, which is what wintermute is doing so despite the stated intentions it does the exact opposite and gives 1 wallet a dominant advantage over every other participant further reducing the democratization of this mechanism is the fact that, practically speaking, you can only use a won gossip slot if you have a direct peering relationship with the foundation node. multiple providers we work with couldn’t pass gossip priority benefits through to us without slowing their other peers (all independently confirmed this behavior - strange design) and to get a foundation peering you to do 0.5% of the 14d HL maker volume (we don't quite meet this threshold so our application was rejected) as well as stake 10,000 HYPE ($780,000 here), or be like, a node service provider --- without revealing too much i can say with 100% certainty that wintermute has maxed out BOTH the infrastructure optimization + expenditure AND is monopolizing the gossip fee auction they're spending on average $26,000 *per day* ($10M/yr) to win this auction so rn they're just eating everyone else's lunch and the only way that approach is economic is if you are MM at the scale that they are, which only a handful of wallets are doing

Objectively a good move for PAPER holders
owning paper is owning a share in the house this is only valuable insofar as the house is valuable. owning a lot of a dead house is worthless, and any design that would let the house stay at zero is a failed design. when we went out, there were certain known problems with known timelines (builder codes) and some unsolved problems with unknown timelines. the perp attack described in the main was an unsolved problem, but we hoped to solve it as we made progress elsewhere. we knew it was impossible to set all the parameters and variables perfectly prelaunch - we are the first through the wall in a very adversarial environment - and i thought we would have more time to find solutions. unfortunately, the way things are advancing, we dont have six months until a large perp listing, its coming already. these were labelled as unsolved β€œgood problems” and here we are. the market forced our hand into making the decision before we found a solution to the problem, and so for the health of the protocol the token is now non-transferrable. i want to thank all of the pre-market perp dexes, especially the hyperliquid ecosystem ones, who were in contact through this process. i am sorry I was not able to find a design for transferability that worked, i tried very hard. ultimately, the success of papertrade relies on what it always has - whether the end product has user PMF. i have extreme confidence in the product we've built and continue to add to. i have had to personally self-exclude myself from similar products before because i used them too much. the token being transferable or not does not change whether a degen will longterm choose to trade on papertrade or not. the execution, site quality, mechanism, and economics of the trade will. papertrade is the fastest way to go from usdc in your wallet on any chain to a leveraged speculation exposure. providing clean, working, composability derivative liquidity in a permissionless environment is the vision. thank you for your all your support since launch, and good luck to us

Honoured and thrilled to see all of the energy from builders on top of Derive v3. V3 was made for builders. Composable onchain options is a blue ocean for innovative, powerful new products that are an upgrade over the traditional financial system. In terms of the areas I am most excited about - it's products that reach new audiences, people who have never traded an option in their lives. We now have the infrastructure to build for them. A few areas I’d love to see people building: β€’ Structured products that use options to generate yield on RWAs. β€’ Hyperlocal/regional user interfaces that tailor the trading experience and GTM to specific geographies. β€’ Simple UIs and novel retail trading experiences that reach people on TikTok and YouTube who have never touched a wallet or CEX in their lives. There is a much bigger world out there than CT. β€’ Social trading using options. This is possibly one of the biggest unexplored areas - every options trade is a specific story about the future, and you can tell richer, more interesting stories with payoff structures that simply aren't possible with any other instrument. Simple UX is a big part of unlocking this. But the question I'd encourage people to start with - who are the net new users you are bringing into the market and how are you actually going to reach them? I’m most excited about experiences that grow the audience for options beyond the people already trading on Derive. As for Derive? Yes we hear all of you on the UI and user feedback. We are working on simpler, more accessible modes for Derive natively on mobile + desktop (as any complete exchange requires) - but we will not be building all of these new experiences ourselves. Our focus is building the core infrastructure and liquidity necessary to support products built using options, 24/7, on any asset. Options are the most composable financial primitive, and I think the category stands the most to gain from migrating onchain out of any financial vertical. Push boundaries, bring in new users, and get creative - I think this is the biggest opportunity in crypto right now. If you're building for a new audience on Derive pls get in touch, would love to hear what you're working on.
V3 is live, and the first builders are already emerging. Vaults and RWAs launch soon to fuel the fire. Options are here to stay and they'll take many forms; yield generation, hedging and chasing outsized returns. They'll be traded through institutional retail-friendly interfaces alike, integrated into wallets and incorporated into structured yield products offered by Neobanks. The pie is growing, and there's room to build something big.

$PUMP options and perps are live on Derive. Block-size trades have already printed via RFQ. The order book is now just as tradeable, with deep liquidity on screen.

A closer look at our thinking behind V3. Our CTO @josh_pwrk sat down with @Nomaticcap to talk through how we got here, why we chose Ethereum and ZK, and where we think onchain finance is headed. We've spent five years building onchain options and learning from the traders who use them. Josh shares the lessons behind V3 and why we want to make it easier for others to build alongside us. Watch the full conversation below.

Derive V3 is live. The migration completed successfully and trading has resumed. We've rebuilt Derive to compound our growth in onchain options, with custody on Ethereum, ZK proofs for margin and settlement, and sub-millisecond order matching. What does this entail? ➀ Launch no-code vaults and earn fees ➀ Free up capital with ETH + BTC risk offsets ➀ Earn and borrow across ETH, WBTC, HYPE + USDC ➀ Faster listings across crypto and RWAs ➀ Build and monetise apps on Derive with less setup We'll build on this foundation with new markets, vaults and partner integrations over the coming weeks. 5+ years on onchain options: app.derive.xyz/

After listening to Jeff's DAS interview, my $DRV bull thesis is unchanged, and possibly strengthened. No, this isn't cope. Strap in for a long one. First off, it was framed in a terribly misleading way by CoinTelegraph for clickbait (shocking). Jeff was asked if we he wasn't forced to be focused on perps infra, their core business, and was instead a 3rd party builder, what would he find interesting to build. His answer was that he'd look for whatever hadn't really been built yet, and mentioned options as a good example. He then added that they're tremendously important as an instrument in TradFi, so figuring out why that hasn't translated over to crypto would be an interesting problem to solve. He then added that HIP4 is already their attempt at building the infrastructure to allow teams to build options on @HyperliquidX. There are dozens of teams building binary options already using HIP4 infrastructure. There are several teams building vanilla options on top of Hyperliquid already. None of these products have taken a meaningful bite out of @DeriveXYZ market dominance yet, and they are live right now. He didn't say that they were building options in house, he just said that someone should build options on chain because there's a massive gap between the success and traction they've had on chain vs in TradFi. This is extremely validating of the $DRV thesis. People need to realize and remember that @DeriveXYZ wasn't specifically written off for all these years, the entire sector of on chain options was deemed as impossible and uninvestable. We've heard, "Options can't exist on chain, options are obsoleted by perps, no retail crypto traders will learn to trade options, etc etc". Jeff negated all of the FUD that on chain options have received over the years and basically said it was the place to be right now. Jeff did specifically say that no on chain options protocol has reached "escape velocity" yet. So if you read between the lines, he's basically saying that on chain options are interesting and necessary as a tool, that they're nascent in their growth as compared to TradFi TAM, and that it's one of the most interesting spots of the market to be focused on building right now. $DRV pumping 10x and having insane hockey stick volume growth YTD isn't "escape velocity" in his eyes, and he's right. $DRV is still cheap and early relative to the market it's expanding into. Job's not finished by any means. It's important to highlight that unlike Vlad from @Lighter_xyz who explicitly says they are building options in house, Jeff said nothing of the sort. Hyperliquid sees themselves as building the neutral infrastructure layers of liquidity for builders to come and build on top of. Look at TradeXYZ and HIP3. He didn't say that they hired a team of 20 ex-Optiver and ex-SIG guys to be their internal options trading desk, he didn't insinuate a launch date, he didn't say HIP-5 is vanilla options. He basically said, "On-chain options are cool and underexplored, I hope teams come and build them on top of our existing infra". Sidenote, I actually think his description of priority fees was actually way more signal and very bullish $HYPE. Way more bullish priority fee growth and obviously AQAv2 fees than anything HIP4 related. At the end of the day, none of what he said is new information. I always have stated in my $DRV bullposts that they will not maintain their current 90%+ market share in 2027. This is an entire primitive that does quadrillions of dollars in volume in TradFi. The on chain pie will grow massively. There will inevitably be more competition for that pie. $DRV could lose half their market share to @Lighter_xyz and @HyperliquidX and still be cheap here at these prices when on chain options volume 10x's or more. I'd also like to point out the irony that I'm long $HYPE and $LIT calls on @DeriveXYZ right now, and I still can't long $DRV perps on Lighter or Hyperliquid. I just refuse to subscribe to this notion that I should sell a phenomenal asset today because maybe there will be competition tomorrow, or next month, or next year. When they have live products, I'll reaccess the situation. Until then, competing against non-existent products that are just presumed to be superior is an unfair standard that seemingly only $DRV gets held to, and irrational selloffs like today, especially based off misleading headlines, are just better entries for me in the long run.
@koolkrypto223, curious if this changes your thesis on base:0x9d0e8f5b25384c7310cb8c6ae32c8fbeb645d083 in the longterm.

Migration complete. Derive is running on its new V3 architecture. Market makers and traders are reconnecting as liquidity builds back up. Withdrawals for some assets may take up to a week to resume. We'll share more about V3 in the coming days, including a closer look at the new architecture and what’s next for users and builders.

Might be a hot take, but I think we're overly infantilizing "retail traders" in general, but especially regarding the whole options UI/UX debate In an age of agentic trading and increasingly sophisticated retail traders, dumbing things down isn't the same as making options trading easier or more accessible. A big point to make here is that the on chain options sector as a whole, and particularly @DeriveXYZ here, actually benefits quite a bit more from builder codes and 3rd party front ends than perps platforms do. Perps UI/UX is largely solved imo. You can't really get much better than @HyperliquidX or @Lighter_xyz. Alternative front ends are cool for distribution, but the actual UI/UX is largely the same, and nobody really wants that to change much. Conversely, the "ideal" front end UI/UX for options is highly subjective. I love seeing the order book and I glean information from it. You might find it to be information overload and seizure inducing. I like a certain style of visual payoff simulator, you might prefer a written description. I've talked to a half dozen different teams who are building on top of @DeriveXYZ V3, and the opportunity for real differentiation and growing the pie is massive. Some are focusing on simpler UI/UX, some are looking at a more modular one, others are building prepackaged payoffs and structured products where the user doesn't even entirely know they're using options. A huge part of my @DeriveXYZ bull case is that a lot of you seem to think traders are too dumb to use options, without taking into account the rise of LLM idea generation with agentic execution and the alternative front end boom that's about to happen.

Poetic that v2 managed to cross $40B in lifetime volume in the week before v3. We launched it all the way back in December 2023, which feels like a lifetime ago in so many ways (v2 predates even the restaking mania bullrun of 2024, RIP Blast). It has taken multiple crypto cycles for onchain options to break out, but in so many ways this growth over the last couple of months is right on time. Uniswap in 2020 ~7 years after crypto spot trading started gaining broader traction. Onchain perps broke out via DyDx and then Hyperliquid in 2023/24 ~7 years after Bitmex, and now onchain options are starting to break out in 2026, ~7 years after Deribit hit growth. Options are the last vertical to mature onchain, and I think there is a strong case that they will be the biggest. Will save that post for another day.
Exciting weekend flows: $450M+ notional in 24 hours. 92.4% of all onchain options premium volume. Open interest back above $4.58B. Cumulative volume crossed $40B all time. πŸ† V3 is coming, migration 6 OCTπŸ“

- ATHs in options volumes - 8x YoY volume growth - 5x YoY fees growth - ~90% onchain options market share Incredible to see people discover Derive v2 after nearly 3 years in production. But v3 is near, and it is lightyears better than v2. We have taken all of the learnings of 5.5 years operating at the bleeding edge of internet finance and poured it into v3. It incorporates everything we’ve learned from traders, market makers, builders, and the markets themselves. I can't wait to show you what we've built. In the meantime, please keep the feedback coming (traders, builders and MMs) - we aren't perfect but we will work hard to address issues as quickly as we can. Grateful to all those who have believed in us to this point, we have much more to prove.

V3 is a zero to one moment for builders. There are a huge variety of products you can create on top derive and we have barely scratched the surface of what is possible. No longer do you have to spend years and millions of dollars to curate liquidity. Simply build out a UI that suits your target users and plug into derive's underlying liquidity network, taking a share of the fees. If your interested in building - simplified options trading - social derivatives - yield products - curated vaults - dated futures - fixed rates - structured products - anything else on top of derivatives All of this is possible on derive, please reach out!
Options protocols of the future will simply build on top of @DeriveXYZ liquidity instead of trying to compete for it This is why Derive is the hyperliquid of options Note: dcf cap holds drv

wait eth is up 15% but my options are up 70% turns out you get leveraged exposure even though they aren't in the money just use @DeriveXYZ, the infinite payoff factory
Just bought 8600 5000/7000 ETH call spreads for march 2027 Basically if ETH is below 5k by then we lose $238k But if ETH goes anywhere higher, we make all the upside on 8,600 ETH At $6k that's $8.3M profit At $7k that's $17M profit 1x downside, 71x upside. Perps could never provide this because - to get 8.6k eth exposure I'd need like $4M in collateral (5x perp) - Even with a 5x perp if eth dips to just 1.9k I'd be liquidated and lose it all before the expire - If funding rates are 10% it would cost me over $1M in funding fees to hold the position until late march Instead I paid $238k all in and never need to spend another cent ty for the copy trade @koolkrypto223 it just took 10 minutes on the @DeriveXYZ RFQ system note: dcf cap holds drv (and these spreads)

Replying to @Haoskionchain
Rough numbers - we can do 100-2000 TPS per engine and we have ~5k of them running (because there’s thousands of strikes). So millions in TPS. I know it sounds like a billboard ad but this is why we do offchain rust orderbook and settlement / margin / liquidations onchain. Our MMs often quote thousands of strikes and refresh OBs on all 5k strikes in one go. Not we often survey our MMs and compare latencies with binance / deribit and around 12mo ago we realized it’s not worth going below 1 ms per order. Liquidations are a Dutch auction (same as AAVE) - very different to perp liquidations where you get auto crossed agains the LP pool. You don’t liquidate by strike, you actually have people bid on a % of the portfolio and the auction price goes down slowly every second.

$ZEC options charts looking like early hyperliquid:native on Derive At the money implied vol for Oct 30th is at 110%, roughly implying avg daily move of 5.5% til then Skew-wise the 20d calls are trading over, meaning traders expect more volatility to the upside. We've seen some ZEC options traders in the last couple days buy puts and sell calls (risk reversal) to take advantage of the cheaper puts relative to calls for insurance in case of a dip.
