COVID-19 vaccines are now available to those ages 16+ 💉. UA will offer vaccines to all students as supply becomes available. Look for an email notification to schedule an appointment through UA’s vaccination program. Take care of yourself + one another. We are in this together.
As unionized staff and faculty at the University of Alabama, we recognize the importance in organizing not just across individual universities but the entire higher education sector to build collective power. docs.google.com/document/d/e…

UCWAL stands in solidarity with @uflorida Campus Workers. Intimidating workers with Orwellian surveillance tactics only shows that UF cares more about their bottom line than about the health & education of workers and students. This is not ok! washingtonpost.com/education…

We continue to call on @UofAlabama to require every student to be tested for COVID-19, to wait on instituting mandatory in-person classes until the campus caseload is at a level comparable to the end of last semester, and to provide hazard pay to front-line campus workers.
We are relieved to see that the @UofAlabama has agreed to give instructors the option to move their classes online for the next two weeks, but their response so far is inadequate.

Students are not a monolithic group. The ones celebrating last night put their classmates at risk, and it would be irresponsible to require students to share classroom spaces given the obvious lack of concern about COVID that so many in the community have.

Students and faculty should not be forced into in-person instruction while we wait to find out. @UofAlabama needs to delay the start of in-person instruction until we know what the COVID numbers are in the next few weeks.

Hundreds crowded the Strip to celebrate a Championship win, just hours before the first day of class. Now, @UCW_AL is urging University officials to provide more protections for workers. Among them: suspend in-person instruction. cw.ua.edu/74152/opinion/open…

About one-third of all students, and all faculty, are required to be tested for COVID-19 prior to arrival next semester. That's a big change from the fall, when UA made entry testing mandatory for everyone. cw.ua.edu/68853/top-stories/…
The University of Alabama requiring staff to return to work on campus while COVID cases in the county, state, and local schools are in the rise is unconscionable and dangerous. – at Kennesaw, GA

Email exchange between me & parent who read my open letter. We both learned something. It would be great if we could get the President, the Chancellor, and the Board of Trustees to learn something from this too! #transparency @UofAlabama @UASystem theuasentinel.blogspot.com/2…

#NEW The Univ. of Alabama has issued 639 individual student sanctions as of Sept. 8th. One student organization is pending suspension, and three received COVID-related sanctions. 33 students have been issued interim measures, effectively suspending them from campus. @abc3340

Multiple students under COVID-19 isolation at the University of Alabama told me they never saw a medical professional & UA did no contact tracing after they tested positive. But UA has officers patrolling isolation dorms' parking lots & entrances 24/7. al.com/news/2020/09/you-dont…
