I want to take a moment to acknowledge international students: The constant worry & energy spent working on immigration documents Being excluded from funding opportunities valued for postdoc & faculty positions And the emotional toll of being away from family

A very important day for birding and ornithology! Please read the report by the EBN committee. It nicely outlines the effort and the considerations that went into this decision. Onwards!

Amazing opportunity with an amazing lab and mentors!
Big news! We received NSF funding and we're now looking for a PhD student to help us study the ecogeography of social behavior in fairywrens. The student will be co-advised by Dai Shizuka and Allison Johnson. Details here: fairywrenproject.org/2023/10โ€ฆ

Fantastic #NewPI and experimental physiologist! @nushiamme is an award winning scientist. Excited to see some fun biology coming out of her lab!
I have news! I just joined @TIFRH_buzz as faculty 2 weeks ago. It's a crazy change after 11 years of living in the US! But I'm super excited to work with students in India to study animals in the tropics, understand heterothermy better, and help shape Indian ecology!

Heartbroken by Reedโ€™s sudden passing. He was an exceptional mentor, colleague, scientist, and conservationist. Many of us at @ArchboldStation are at a loss for words. The scrub and the Scrub-Jays will forever remind us of his lifeโ€™s work.
The AFO community mourns the loss of Reed Bowman. Reed played a tremendously important role in AFO, it's hard to imagine the association without him. Please keep Reed, his wife, Charlotte, and their children Seth and Mei in your thoughts.

I could not have asked for a better predecessor in my current role. He was completely hands off yet always available. A fountain of wisdom about everything from choosing the right interns to Florida natural history. We will miss him a lot at #Archbold_birdlab
