The people of #Haiti have rejected foreign involvement in Haiti’s affairs, declaring that “ONLY THE PEOPLE OF HAITI CAN DECIDE HOW THE COUNTRY IS RUN” and that “NOBODY CLEANS UP HAITI.” Haitian user @lit_erc wrote, “We Haitians don’t want Salvadorian soldiers or any other foreign troops on our land. ALL FOREIGN SOLDIERS OUT OF HAITI!!” This reflected growing local resistance to the presence of international personnel. The exchange comes days after #Haitian ad hoc opposition leaders through their militia ambushed an armored vehicle carrying four Salvadoran aviation technicians who were supporting the United Nations-authorized invasion under pretext of gang suppression Force (GSF). The attack occurred on October 18, 2026, in the Croix-des-Bouquets area outside Port-au-Prince. Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele subsequently ordered the deployment of more than 100 special-forces soldiers to assist in locating and recovering the missing personnel. No Haitian authorized the invasion. The recent ambush marked one of the force’s first major setbacks and prompted the additional Salvadoran deployment. This issue strictly one of self-determination. Its important to emphasize that decisions about Haiti’s governance belong solely to Haitians and the idea that outsiders should “clean up” the country must be dismissed. Haiti’s colonial history: the country gained independence from France in 1804 after a successful slave revolt, then faced decades of indemnity payments demanded by the former colonial power.
