Regrettably, my new book 'Boiled Branches, Green Wood - A Book of Trespassers' is not as good as 'Shadow Ticket' but it is interesting, and it covers a lot of ground, and it is available now through Amazon, in paperback or on the kindle.

A noisy clock, four rambunctious corvids, a wasp in the wrong place at the wrong time...

I strongly object to Coppola's depiction of Dracula as a tragic figure pining for a lost love. In the novel, he is an unworldly, barely-refined degenerate whose conquests are a woman selected at random (Lucy) and the wife of the man on whom he is taking revenge.
The three crows and the magpie who visit the garden are being raised on a diet of green figs and Beowulf. I read excerpts from the latter to them while they are eating the former off the tree.

I opened the bedroom window, late one evening. Immediately several crane flies flew in. There must have been about thirty at least, either fumbling their way up the bumpy grain of the pale-blue wallpaper, or dancing around upside-down on the ceiling…
There are probably easier ways to layout a novel for print. However, I regard yelling at LibreOffice to be an integral part of the post-creative process. I think the books are better having been shouted at.
When the Soviets took Berlin there were over 600,000 rapes in the immediate aftermath, with victims including infants and geriatrics.
When an invading force has taken over, nobody gets spared, not even the useful idiots.
I butchered my parent's tomato plant today, with some reluctance as it was still flowering and producing new fruit. My dad broke his arm so he can't finish what he started. If not now, then when? The green multitude will have to be spread out and ripened indoors.
Linda May Han Oh plays the double bass with such obvious joy. She makes me feel guilty about not liking her music.
There is a great passage in Bolaño's By Night in Chile, where Father Lacroix is touring Europe, meeting priests who are using falcons to scare pigeons away from the churches. He loses the falcon of a dying priest. He goes to let the doctor in. When he gets back the bird is gone.
If I hadn't got so hopelessly lost that I had to break out the compass, I would have never found this great piano. It doesn't play.
The house is full of crane flies. The spiders have come out from behind the picture frames and it's like the god damn killing fields.
If I hold multiple copies of One Hundred Years of Solitude, do those years run concurrently or consecutively? If the latter, then is there any upper limit?
Received wisdom is that Section 5 of the London Loop (Hamsey Green to Couldson South) is the prettiest. I think Section 4 (West Wickham Common to Hamsey Green) edges it, plus I was attacked by fewer dogs.
