antiSMASH 8.0 is here. Enjoy analysing gene clusters, chemistry, enzymes, regulation etc with improved capabilities. academic.oup.com/nar/article…
3/4 Given the fragmented nature of the BGCs containing these diels-alderases we resequenced both strains. We hope these talented strains are useful for #genomemining. Especially as this is only the 4th complete genome from the incredibly gifted and underexplored Kutzneria genus.

#MRA! Complete genomes of two actinomycetes containing abyssomicin-like gene clusters: #Kutzneria

2/4 We identified rare diels alderase enzymes, capable of stereoselective C-C cycloadditions, from the scaffold assemblies of these strains. We also successfully characterised in vitro activity of the 'Cyclase15' from NL15-2K here: chemistry-europe.onlinelibra…

Wow!
What on earth happened here?
(I don't mean "why did so many people move to a different social network," but "why did they all go to 🦋")

I knew there were a lot of fake accounts on this platform, but they are usually obvious. I had no idea how intricate and complex the ruse could be.

All too often researchers use non-standard methods and so MIC data cannot be reproduced. To reduce that error read this: ‘Antibiotic susceptibility testing using minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assays’ @bondSSbond nature.com/articles/s44259-0…

Invasive fungal infections kill 3.8 millions of deaths annually. Current antifungal medicines are limited by toxicity, drug-drug interactions and resistance. We report alligamycin as a novel antifungal lead against resistant Aspergillus and Talaromyces. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Humans tend to underestimate the pace of innovation and overestimate the inertia of incumbent technologies.
Clean energy technologies have scaled much more rapidly than predicted by modellers.
