What have an 1860s narrow gauge pioneer, a ‘Black Five’ and an industrial loco from a paper mill got in common? They’re all former winners of the Coiley Award. Could your project be a worthy winner of the 2024 award, sponsored by Hargreaves. Entries: hra.uk.com/coiley-award-for-…

@SandKLR was built in 1905 for the transportation of the raw materials required for the manufacture of paper and the finished product. The line, built to a gauge of 2′ 6″, continues to use the steam engines and rolling stock supplied to operate the railway in its working life.

My first involvement in railway preservation was at the SKLR as a 6th former. (That's me emerging from the hut in work clothes. Working at height rules non-existent as we demolished a steel shed off ladders...😱)

To Sittingbourne, for one of the UK’s less picturesque (but still charming) preserved lines. Built to serve the local paper mills, today it winds through a postindustrial landscape of retail parks, recycling centres, and nature reserves on a fragile, sinuous, concrete viaduct. – at Sittingbourne, England

It was great to see the @SandKLR Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway having a busy day or its first operating day of the season. Superbly restored “Premier” of 1905 was in action today and the railway is open over the whole Easter weekend, then every Sunday & BH until October – at Sittingbourne, England

The Coiley Award for Steam Locomotion is won by the @SandKLR for restoring “Premier” of 1905 back to original condition. This little railway is a treasure in the industrial landscape and Premier is one of its most wondrous gems.

The Saturday of the @SandKLR's End of Season Gala. I do believe that this is a line that doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. It's such an alternative to most other places on offer. #Sittingbourne #Kent #VisitKent #UKRailways #RailwayPhotography #Tourism #Railway

I've been thinking. Is there some mileage in starting up a social club for women who love railways? Time to smash the stereotype, not in the eyes of fellow enthusiasts but in those of the general public. Plus, meeting people and playing on trains is fun!!

We're delighted to take part in this years #LoveYourRailway Campaign. Today is the start of the annual six-week campaign to raise awareness of the importance of heritage railways around the world. Starting this week with #HistoryWeek 📷 🐼
The Wymondham to Wells branch was opened in stages between 1847 and 1857. The entire line became part of the Great Eastern Railway in 1862. The photo shows soldiers departing Dereham to the front line in World War 1. #LoveYourRailway #History

#DYK: After many discussions, starting in the 1790s, George Stephenson was asked by local businessmen to plan a route for the Whitby & Pickering Railway. Started in 1833, complete May 1836, it was the 3rd passenger railway in #Yorkshire. #LoveYourRailway nymr.co.uk/book-tickets

The current MNRPT was set up in 1995 following the merger of various societies that had been trying to preserve the line since 1974. #LoveYourRailway #History #midnorfolkrailway
