Lagos is a city that is constantly growing and changing and to plan well for its future, we must understand it through accurate information. Today, I commissioned the Lagos Land Archive as part of activities to mark GIS Day 2026. The facility will preserve our hardcopy land records alongside electronic data, making it easier to access and manage vital land information. With this project, Lagos now has the largest land information storage facility in West Africa. I also toured the e-GIS offices, including the Physical Planning and Automation Department, Survey Information Centre, GIS Centre and Office of the Surveyor-General, where I saw how technology is helping us make better decisions on land administration, planning, infrastructure and development. For a city of our scale, better information means better planning and better service to Lagosians.

Nigerians are 1-way traffic; yes, we can't deny the spread of fake products in Nigeria, but no 1 is talking about factory errors. Many of the products we label as fake are actually from the real producer; it's bcs of zero quality-control oversight. @NafdacAgency has a lot to do.

We were out at the Olusosun dumpsite to inspect our waste management operations firsthand. I know the collection delays across Lagos over the past few weeks have been frustrating and seeing waste piled up is unacceptable. We are taking direct action to fix this. We are leveling and expanding access roads at our five major dumpsites so trucks can dump and turn around without delay. We have ordered 160 new compactors to strengthen our fleet and our development partners are bringing in extra heavy-duty equipment. We are restructuring LAWMA to ensure stricter oversight on the ground and we are working with the PSP operators to clean up their operations and ensure only capable and committed teams are on our roads. Looking slightly ahead, we are constructing two major Transfer Loading Stations at Olusosun and Solous 3, alongside Material Recovery Facilities in Epe and Badagry to modernize how we sort and recycle waste long-term. We are fixing the system from the ground up but keeping Lagos clean requires effort from all of us. Indiscriminate dumping on our streets will not be tolerated and environmental enforcement officers will arrest and prosecute offenders. We are on it and you will see the difference soon.

Stop feeding your stomach unnecessary herbs; plant a tree at home 🏡 & spend time underneath it. The fight against increasing cancers cannot be solved by dietary changes alone. It requires a conscious effort to restore our natural infrastructure. Environmental pollution = Cancer

Behind Ademola Adeleke's victory, there are 3 key factors: the Almighty God, @davido father, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Many of you are blind to the real politics. By next week, we will all see @AAdeleke_01 in Abuja on a thank-you visit to the President. #Agreementpolitics

Eradicating indiscriminate waste disposal requires a strategic and well-coordinated enforcement plan. Investing in enforcement infrastructure is essential to building the cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Lagos of our dreams.

At the London Climate Summit, I spoke about energy security, which I believe is one of Nigeria’s most important priorities. Recent reforms in our power sector have created new opportunities for states like Lagos to play a more active role in power generation and distribution. We are already seeing results through investments in mini-grids, improved access to electricity in our communities and the installation of over 45,000 solar street lights across the state. I made a strong case for greater international partnerships. Africa holds 60 percent of the world’s solar potential and is home to a quarter of the global population. If the world is serious about achieving a truly scalable energy transition, investment must reach places that have been underserved for far too long. Lagos is ready for meaningful collaboration to expand our energy capacity and deliver reliable power to more people.

The waste management challenge in Lagos is not just about infrastructure; it is fundamentally about understanding both technical and behavioural aspects. Most illegally dumped waste does not come from ordinary citizens experiencing service delays.

Instead, it is driven primarily by residents with Non-Compliance Status. This group can be identified by three key markers: The Unsubscribed: Residents who refuse to register with assigned PSP operators.

The Unequipped: Households and commercial properties lacking waste storage facilities (no bins or standard bags). The Debtors: Properties with large overdue balances that choose illegal dumping to avoid payment

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed an immediate, state-wide scale-up of waste evacuation operations. The executive directive follows growing concerns and complaints from residents regarding a recent buildup of refuse in several parts of the metropolitan state. To ensure immediate compliance with the Governor’s directive, the state has fully mobilized the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) alongside its extensive network of Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators. According to the government, relevant waste disposal agencies and service providers have been ordered to work on a 24-hour shift schedule. The primary focus is clearing the mountain of refuse that has accumulated along major highways, inner-city streets, and commercial market areas. "The administration remains deeply committed to upholding public health and environmental safety. Relevant agencies and service providers have been mobilized to work around the clock to clear the waste backlogs and improve overall collection efficiency."
Dear Lagosians, I have directed an immediate scale-up of waste evacuation across Lagos following the recent build-up of refuse in some parts of our state. LAWMA, LASEPA, and the Ministry of Environment are currently working around the clock. We have deployed extra trucks and personnel to clear the backlogs across all affected neighbourhoods. You should already see progress on the streets and we will not stop until our city is completely clean again. Lagos generates over 13,000 tons of waste every single day. Managing this requires a massive effort but our determination to fix the current challenge is absolute. As we continue this cleanup, I ask for your partnership. Please bag your waste properly and avoid dumping refuse in drainage channels or on the roads. We are fully on top of this situation. Let us work together to keep Lagos clean and safe for everyone.
