Competent reading instruction with teacher train and ongoing coaching on high-quality curriculum is the *opposite* of a "miracle." It should be the standard everywhere.
Mississippi has the best demographic-adjusted NAEP (4th & 8th grade) scores now The "Mississippi Miracle" started in 2012 when the Republican governor/legislature introduced phonics-based instruction and began to hold back ~10% of 3rd graders per year who fail a reading test

Amazing!! He's lucky to have you!
He did it! My mentee Christian is now a high school graduate! This is my 9th year as his mentor through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program; I’ve seen him overcome a lot and persevere through challenges. Great day! 🎓 @BBBS_TampaBay

Big moves in CO on students-first funding 💪🏼
Senate Minority Leader @Paul_Lundeen's closing remarks on HB24-1448, the school finance reform bill, elevated the importance and moral imperative of funding student needs over systems. The bill is currently awaiting the Governor's signature. Read Sen. Lundeen’s remarks below: "[House Bill 1448] is responsible to the state budget, it is sensitive to district needs, it is elegant in establishing a new mathematical formula that at the end of the day, most importantly, honors students. It’s a transformation from a formula that was about systems into a formula that is about students. It is our responsibility, it is our moral imperative that we meet every student who shows up on the doorstep of our public schools asking for, needing a free public education that we acknowledge the circumstances from which that student arrives, and the opportunity that the student may move forward in their life to. Nothing is as important in a child’s life, beyond love, family and friends, than the education they get. And it is critically important that this formula will offer the promise of actually making the way we fund public education about those precious souls that are the future of our state and the future of our country for the first time." This is incredibly frightening.
It's worse than I thought: "Nearly a quarter of UK five-to-seven-year-olds now have their own smartphone."

A friend in a large district FL told me months ago that not a single book protested there had been by a parent with kids in the district, only activists. Thank you @JenniferCanady_ for cracking down to make sure schools aren't wasting valuable time.

Agreed. When my 5 year old is struggling to ride her bike up a hill, I make her repeat, "I can do hard things." It's wild how much confidence and motivation it actually gives her. Learning is no different.
A good starting point would be not constantly telling kids the basic tasks of life and learning are too hard, to traumatizing, to anxiogenic for them. Kids can do hard things, and learning their multiplication facts is not even a particularly hard thing.

The hallmark of an open mind is refusing to let your ideas become your identity. If you define yourself by your opinions, questioning them is a threat to your integrity. If you see yourself as a curious person or a lifelong learner, changing your mind is a moment of growth.

This is such a big deal & deserves even more attention. Unbelievable work by @darrylrouson & @michellesalzman this year to finally honor and compensate the survivors of Dozier. If you are unfamiliar with the horrors of Dozier: npr.org/2012/10/15/162941770…
Testimony from survivors of the Dozier School is horrific. It is sickening to hear what these men endured. I commend their courage and appreciate Senator @darrylrouson bringing SB 24 forward this session. He has been a champion for survivors of Dozier and Okeechobee. @FLSenate 🙏

For the rest of the country, Valentine’s Day is about love and friendship — but for our Broward County community, it’s also a day of loss and remembrance. Six years ago today, a gunman entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School — opening fire to shoot 34, kill 17, and forever change the lives of thousands more. And so today — and every single day since February 14, 2018 — we remember and honor the victims and survivors with love, care, and a deep commitment to keeping our schools and communities safe. For Alyssa, Scott, Martin, Nicholas, Aaron, Jaime, Chris, Luke, Cara, Gina, Joaquin, Alaina, Meadow, Helena, Alex, Carmen, and Peter. ❤️ 🦅
