We're so pleased for our 2024 Fellow @CEmogor , who has been recognized with an international @IFAWUK award for his pangolin conservation work. Charles has just started his interdisciplinary Fellowship journey, we can't wait to see where he takes it bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crr5…

Culture, community, ambition, risk, failure, and perseverance. Inclusion, perspective, and reflection...no punting...but pasta, and how to change the world. That's a wrap on the first Science Leadership Program for our 2024 Fellows. Thanks to all who made it special. Safe travels.

Excited to share that I'm starting a new research group at @uclachem and @cnsiatucla!
We'll focus on the molecular architecture of tight junctions - barriers crucial for human health - using biochemical reconstitution, cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, and cell-based assays.

1/7 Our latest preprint is out! 🚨 @Sour_Agrawal , @xiuhua_linwisc , @viveksusvirkar et al. discover human RPA is a critical telomerase processivity factor essential for telomere maintenance. This reshapes our understanding of human telomerase regulation. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Thank you for this wonderful Spotlight, @LabNandakumar!
Our Spotlight on beautiful work from the de Lange (@SarahWCai et al), Walz, and Cech labs.
At the end, it is POT1 again: Phosphorylation allows human telomeric protein POT1 to recruit the C-rich strand end replication machinery: Molecular Cell cell.com/molecular-cell/full…

Decarbonizing the grid will require creative solutions to tough problems. With the support of @ActivateFellows, our team at @StandPotential is well-positioned to overcome these hurdles by minimizing both materials and manufacturing for #sodiumion #batteries.

Excited to share that our new preprint is out! We used #AlphaFold multimer to screen 7000+ nuclear proteins to find new nucleosome acidic patch binders. Great collaboration between @FrogWalterLab and @LucasFarnung. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

We are excited that our study on telomere sequencing in collaboration with @nanopore is published nature.com/articles/s41467-0… We developed Telo-seq, a method to determine the length and composition of entire human telomeres in bulk, chromosome arm and in some cases allelic resolution

Huge honor and pleasure to be with @RockefellerUniv grads and faculty. A jewel of an institution, and some mighty students. Go forth and make #science for people and the planet.
Last week, 38 students received Ph.D.s at Rockefeller’s 66th convocation and honorary degrees were awarded to @francesarnold, Freeman A. Hrabowski, III, and @MichaelEMann. Congratulations to all! bit.ly/4c06JD0

Amazing work solving this problem at human telomeres! Near and dear to me as my own PhD focused on this question but alas only in mice

New findings from Titia de Lange, Thomas Walz, and @SarahWCai describe how the enzyme CST is recruited to the end of the telomere, where it maintains telomere length with the help of subtle chemical changes made to the protein POT1. #RockefellerScience

A huge thank you to all of my co-authors: Hiro has been working on the genetics of this complex for over a decade now and his knowledge and expertise here was critical to this story. [3/5]
Teague joined as a new research assistant in the lab last summer and wonderfully purified all of the POT1 mutants we used in the revision. Also new from the preprint is a great collaboration with the Cech lab; it was fun working with Art, a legend in telomere biochemistry. [4/5]
And of course, words cannot express my gratitude for Titia and Tom. It's been a wonderful PhD as a student of the 10th floor of RRB @RockefellerUniv [5/5]
Most key points in the preprint thread linked below, but the review process helped us better characterize the phosphorylation events that regulate how POT1 brings CST–Polα/primase to telomeres to solve the second end-replication problem. [2/5]
