While this is undoubtedly good news, I have some questions about the mental health component. Who staffs the clinic? Is it located in the same place as the gender-affirming care unit is or used to be? Will detransitioners be dealing with the same personnel who encouraged transition in the first place, and will they frame detransition as part of a "gender journey"?
🚨Today, Texas Children’s Hospital has officially launched their Detransition Clinic 🚨
Under the settlement, TCH must provide multidisciplinary detransition-related care FREE OF CHARGE for five years, including endocrinology, surgery, primary care, fertility counseling, mental health services, social work, and speech pathology.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude once again to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and my attorneys at the Burke Law Group for their extraordinary dedication, sacrifice, and tireless efforts throughout this fight. Their commitment helped turn a painful and difficult chapter into an opportunity for meaningful change. @KenPaxtonTX @BurkeLawTweets
I think of all the detransitioners who have suffered in silence, been dismissed, and fought desperately to have their voices heard. This win is for them.
I hope TCH’s admirable effort to fund and launch Americas first detransition clinic becomes a turning point for the entire country. That this clinic is not the exception, but the first of many.
Today’s a good day. ❤️

🚨The Conversion Practices Bill is arguably one of the most illiberal and invasive pieces of legislation ever brought forward by a Government.
Parents, therapists and religious leaders could face up to five years in prison for having well-intentioned conversations with gender-confused children or sharing the teachings of their faith.
This Bill will rip families apart and hurt the very people it claims to protect.

Why doesn't an apology always end a cancellation?
CTA Co-Director @Jaco_v_Z explores the psychology of cancel culture, arguing that for some bad-faith actors, an apology becomes an invitation to further punishment rather than reconciliation.
A psychoanalytic perspective on guilt, redemption, and the limits of appeasement.

A Christmas entertainment company is advertising for ‘male identifying elves’ and ‘female identifying elves’ to work in its grottos this festive season. 🎄🎅
Given that elves aren't actually real, I'm not entirely sure what it means to ‘identify’ as a male or female elf.

“Part of her employer’s defence was to claim that Redvers’ belief in ‘the integrity of explanatory and evidence-led medicine’ was ‘in reality an opinion or viewpoint [that] lacks cogency and cohesion’.”
Mad that the NHS tried to claim this, but equally mad that a doctor is having to fight for employment protections on the grounds that evidence-based medicine is a ‘belief’ worthy of legal protection. What we once called ‘facts’ are increasingly framed as ‘beliefs’, and we the public apparently need legal permission to freely hold and express them. See @SehgalCuthbert and @DontDivideUsNow for how this derangement is enabled by the Equality Act.

The Centre for Male Psychology, and associated psychologists and authors, has been researching masculinity for around 15 years.
We've found positives in masculinity, and also that the negative narrative around masculinity could harm men's mental wellbeing pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/article…
A review of 65 masculinity measures classified 51 (78%) as deficit-focused, emphasizing negative outcomes associated with masculinity
Only 14 (22%) included ANY attention to masculinity’s strengths. That does not mean those measures focused primarily on strengths
Just 91 of 590 articles (15%) published in Psychology of Men & Masculinities between 2000 and 2018 had a positive focus

Best advice I was given was 'don't talk at - ask questions'. The questions are the light
How to Talk to Someone Who Is Still Inside the Spell,
“Until you understand that, every conversation will end the same way: they get defensive, you get frustrated, and the relationship takes another hit while the belief gets stronger.”

I was writing a training day on adapting therapy for neurodivergent clients when I got stuck.
The task was impossible, because neurodivergence is a category which can include gifted people, severely disabled people, people with serious mental health problems and anyone who feels that the world was not designed for them.
Which is, in my experience, almost everyone. Because who out there feels that the world IS designed for them?
I could think of no adaptation which would apply to all these people, but wasn’t just best practice for everyone. The term neurodivergence is so wide that it means nothing. It flattens important differences. And yet it’s all around us.
Why?

Did you know there’s such a thing as “queer anthropology”?
Anthropologist @eweissunburied says her field has traded logic, falsifiability, and consistency for ideology. The goal is no longer to discover the past. It’s to mold it.

Excellent advice.
I studied cults and the only way to deprogramme anyone involved in a cult is to ask very good questions that, as this article states ‘follows them home’.

So much damage is done by the idea that there is a majority of people for whom life is straightforward. The world was designed for them, they effortlessly comply with societal demands and get over their life stresses easily. They never wonder whether there is something different about them, or criticise themselves for minor failings. They sail through school and work. They have meaningful relationships with only transient conflict. Their emotions are manageable and in proportion. They are round pegs in round holes.
The neurotypical
Some people look like this from the outside. Hardly anyone reports being like this from the inside. Yet more and more books and training programmes promote the idea that if you’re not like this, you must be neurodivergent. Wired differently.
We have pathologised the human condition.

Lord Forst is absolutely correct. Any articulation of the fact biological sex exists and “gender identity” is a faith concept would become a risky thing to say if the Conversion Practices bill becomes law.
