After two years gathering evidence, the Alliance is calling for proper scrutiny of animal testing licences, ASRU, and a system that continues to use dogs in research. It’s time to End Testing on Dogs, Shut Down MBR and have a public Inquiry into this disgusting industry which is not only failing 2.5 million animals per year but is also stalling medical progress. As Dominic said, we need our Government to be PROPERLY FUNDING non animal methods. There is an opportunity to actually be a world leader. America is ahead of us already, they are ending government funding on Dogs & Cats which will wipe out about 50% of the need, Amazing! And they are brining in the COMPACT ACT which is gathering large support currently. Here in UK….nothing. Animal testing has a 1% to 10% success rate. A new method like organ on chip has an 85% success rate. What are we waiting for @andyburnham ??? All Labours talk of phasing out is fooling nobody. Their message deserves to be heard: as science advances, policy must move forward. Outdated practices must never be protected from scrutiny by political reluctance, regulatory rigidity or commercial interests. The Government’s commitment to the 3Rs - Replacement, Reduction and Refinement—must mean more than words. Where is the urgency? Where is the accountability? Human-relevant alternatives, including advanced cell-based methods and organs-on-chips, offer new ways to study disease and test treatments without relying on animals. It also impacts the reputation of Huntingdon, home to MBR Acres, and how the town is seen by the wider world. No community should have to carry the shadow of an industry associated with animal suffering. Huntingdon deserves to be known for its people, its community and its future - not for breeding beagles for laboratory experiments. And we believe local people deserve a say in whether MBR Acres should continue to operate on their doorstep. At our march for the Save The Dogs campaign, Green Party councillors from Huntingdonshire District Council voiced their support for the closure of MBR Acres, recognising that this is an issue that matters to animals, local people and the community’s future. Their support sends an important message: concern about MBR Acres goes beyond animal welfare. This lack of transparency leaves unanswered questions about what dogs bred for laboratories may experience and why these procedures are considered necessary. When animals are used in research, the public deserves openness, accountability and confidence that every decision is being properly scrutinised.
