OK, so I went out and watched the new Masters of the Universe movie. I actually wasn't very interested in seeing it, and I hadn't thought of the property since I was a kid and had the figures. This is stuff I would think only 40 or 50 year-olds would know about or be interested in because of the nostalgia factor. I thought it was kind of dumb that they made a new movie about it, but everyone was telling me how good it was so I caved and saw it.
Honestly, it was way better than I expected. It is definitely goofy in parts, but that's part of its charm. It wears its cheesiness like a badge of honor and it never detracts from the performances, the set designs, or the action sequences. The movie moves along at a good clip, and it turns out you don't really have to know anything about the Masters of the Universe to enjoy it. All in all, if you want a fun, whimsical, swashbuckling action fantasy/sci-fi movie you could do worse. I give it an 8/10.
