🏆 MEET OUR FINALISTS | INDIVIDUAL BRAVERY AWARD 2026 🏆 Courage comes in many forms. Sometimes it means facing extraordinary danger. Sometimes it means finding the right words in a moment when someone’s life hangs in the balance. The Scottish Police Federation is proud to introduce our two outstanding finalists for the Individual Bravery Award 2026. ⭐ PC Kevin Simpson – Inverness While volunteering to support policing in Shetland, Kevin responded to a devastating and violent incident in a remote location, knowing that specialist assistance was hours away. Faced with extremely difficult and dangerous circumstances, Kevin and his colleagues showed exceptional courage and professionalism. His determination to preserve life, despite the risks and challenges, represents the very best of policing. ⭐ PC Darren Strong – Lossiemouth Walking to work, Darren came across a woman in immediate danger on the edge of a bridge. Through patience, compassion and skilled communication, he gradually gained her trust before putting his own safety at risk to pull her back to safety. His actions are a powerful reminder that bravery is not only about decisive action, but also about empathy and the ability to connect with someone in their darkest moments. 💙 Two remarkable officers. Two extraordinary acts of bravery. One shared commitment to protecting others. We look forward to recognising Kevin and Darren at the Scottish Police Federation Awards on Wednesday 25 November 2026, where the winner will be revealed. Please join us in congratulating both officers on their well-deserved nominations. 👏 Serving Scotland. #NONSTOP Everyday, police officers deal with violent confrontations, demanding incidents and distressing situations. The impact is immense, but the toll is often unseen. From responding to violence and supporting vulnerable people to dealing with incidents that can stay with them long after the shift has ended. We are pleased to share #NONSTOP - a new film from @btpolfed -which reminds us that behind every uniform is a person. Watch it here: btpfnonstop.co.uk #btpfnonstop

Families from across the UK attended the Service in Belfast’s Waterfront Hall to remember loved ones who lost their lives in the exercise of their duties. Our Chair read out the names of the right officers who died during the year. Afterwards, he described it as ‘a very poignant Service.’ @ChiefConPSNI @Police_Memorial @NIPolicingBoard @ShabanaMahmood @RhonddaBryant @Justice_NI

Maggie Chapman MSP is correct, the police should never be the first responders to a mental health crisis. It should always be a trained mental health professional.

Thanks to Steven Kerr MSP for bringing a debate to the Scottish Parliament on policing and the mental health crisis. Huge amounts of Police Officer time is being taken up dealing with vulnerable people in crisis. They need care, support and treatment from health professionals not a police intervention.

Joe Long MSP raises the long standing concerns about the police being left to deal with the mental health crisis and the need for new services like the one that was rolled out as a pilot in Fife. The service ended due to wrangling over funding.

Liam Kerr MSP is right to say 1 in 6 police call outs are for mental health related issues. Police officers should be responding to community safety incidents and not being seen as a last resort because of NHS underfunding.
