The 2nd, perhaps less obvious, reason is because of all the ice pellets which fell on top of it, the snow is both protected from the sun, and the pack as a whole has MUCH more water content, which makes it much harder to melt.

Literally nobody working an off hours shift takes a single hour for dinner.
Unless weather is busy you take every minute you can to see your family before racing back to the studio for the late evening news.
KATV gave me extra time on top of that when both my kids were newborns. Get your work done and go be with family!

According to a post from Beach Talk Radio, Southwest Florida and Nationally known Meteorologist Matt Devitt was fired for reportedly using some time between newscasts to help his wife with dinner after the birth of their child - something that is commonly allowed for chief meteorologists.
If this reporting is accurate, it’s hard to wrap your head around.
After nearly a decade serving Southwest Florida - through hurricanes, emergencies, and long nights - this is not a good look...
