These localization practices are the artistic equivalent of taking a beautiful painting and scribbling over it with markers, or spraying graffiti all over a great work of architecture only to claim it makes it "better."
Localization "adapts" a work to make it feel as though it wasn't made in its country of origin rather than providing a faithful translation of said work.
Japanese media should reflect its Japanese quirks, perspective, and values that are a consequence of the creators' background and culture. It should not be altered or censored to fit so-called Western (or "global") sensibilities or filled with goofy humor or agendas not intended by the creators that ultimately boil down to localizer preferences.

Any foreigner celebrating or participating in spreading political discord in Japan should be promptly deported and never allowed reentry. Tolerating this nonsense only affords them a voice in steering the direction of the culture which they do not deserve.

Africans need to remain in Africa. There is nothing of value they can add to Japan or Western society, otherwise their own homelands wouldn't be the way they are. It's not the land, it's the people who inhabit it. Allowing them into your country is effectively inviting a permanent underclass that will always lag behind and weigh society and culture down with incompatible, destructive behaviors. They will always envy and resent their betters no matter what you do for them.

Rather than make assumptions, why not share with the class the "subtle cultural nuance" here that requires an ordinary character name be turned into an STD joke?

That's not what actually happened, though.
The myth of the original Ghost Stories anime being such a colossal failure that ADV was given free rein over the dub persists, when in reality it's just another tale of localizers thinking they're better writers than the JP creator. slashfilm.com/703353/why-eve…

Localizers will blatantly disrespect the Japanese source material and act as though it's clever and funny. Esti Erhard of Atelier's Arland trilogy is a great example of turning a character into a complete joke by making her name a play on STD.
Somehow, practices like this are considered a professional job in the world of localization, which is all that is needed to demonstrate the low standards of the industry and with how little respect Japanese media is treated via localizers.
This should never be acceptable.

This is a display of cultural dominance. They know it's disruptive to natives, they know it's obnoxious and completely unnecessary, but they don't care. They're going to do it simply to show that they can because they have the "discrimination" card if anyone tries to stop them. The Japanese (and the West) need to send these invaders packing.

They're not wanted or needed in Japan (or any other civilized country) due to the content of their character. It just so happens that the skin often correlates with the low quality of said character.

Thanks to localizers, Japanese companies and creators largely have a false perception of what is "necessary" when it comes to the English translation of Japanese media.
The art and cultural references should not be censored or "adapted," rather these works should be faithfully translated to adhere as closely as possible to the original Japanese.
Foreign media should feel foreign to an audience outside of that culture's target demographic; this is normal and also allows said audience to better understand a culture whose creativity they enjoy. "Adapting" it to feel like it wasn't even made by its own creators' cultural perspective is artistic vandalism.
Localizers and those who defend their practices will often default to "you can't translate 1:1" when a lot of script changes are easily translatable lines of dialogue, as demonstrated by countless comparisons.
While egregious examples are often shared the most because they stand out more, there are so many simple lines that get changed for no reason other than what amounts to a localizer's personal preference, which should never justify altering the author's intent.
Unfortunately, these practices are so ingrained in the industry that it will require a complete overhaul to the way Japanese to English translation is handled. The Japanese need to know this is *not* necessary for their media to be enjoyed.

Yeah, thank the heavens the real experts are in charge of localization!

Magic soil isn't real, a country and culture is only as good as the people who created it. Japanese people are what make Japan unique, thus if they were magically transported out of Japan to some other foreign land, they would make do because they are a capable people who've demonstrated an ability to create high trust society.
The 3rd world exists due to the fact that its people generally operate on a lower level and cannot create anything better, not because of "plundered resources." This mythical idea of everyone being capable of anything is so patently false that continuing to believe it in spite of the complete opposite demonstrated throughout all history is delusional.

Well, I finally finished Growlanser Wayfarer of Time the other day. I bought it back when it was released in 2012 and played a few times, but each time never actually got to the end. I had a similar relationship with Breath of Fire III for more or less the same reasons; I'd get to a certain point, something would come up and by the time I'd get back to the game I'd want to start over because it had been so long since I last played.
Anyway, while I haven't played through it nearly as much as my other favorites I absolutely love this game. The setting and story is an interesting mix of political intrigue, fantasy, and sci-fi. As I've said before, the character designs by Satoshi Urushihara are top notch, I really like how even so many side characters have very charming and beautiful designs, such as Maggie and Sydney.
There are a lot of choices in the game that impact what characters will survive and what ending the player will get as a result. I definitely didn't save every character I wanted to, it probably would have been beneficial to look at a guide, but I wanted to do as much as I could on my own.
The game has 40 different variations on the ending, so there's a New Game+ option as well. That's a lot of replay value and I'd like to play it again soon to see if I can change the fates of characters I lost. I could have finished a lot sooner, but I was having a lot of fun working through the battle arena challenges, earning all the rewards, and maxing out character stats and skills.
There are some frustrating missions that mostly involve time limits, but it's nothing that can't be overcome with the proper strategy. It's genuinely challenging at times, but most of that is figuring out how to best utilize your party in battle. I also appreciate that buff and debuff spells actually feel useful and make a difference.
There is a dating sim element as well, but being that I didn't really follow a guide I don't think I experienced it to the fullest. I know you can choose a girl to confess to, but I didn't get a chance to do that so perhaps I didn't focus on one character enough.
Most of that takes place during your "furlough" time which is when the player can choose to hang out with a party member and do activities or just talk, but it's limited so there are only so many things that can be done in a day.
Overall, I had really a great time with this game and am tempted to start right back up again in New Game + because I don't want to leave it behind just yet. There aren't many games I can say that about.
However, I do still need to play Growlanser 1 since a fan translation came out not too long ago, and 2 and 3 from the PS2 collection. It's a great series and in an ideal world it'd be nice to see a compilation collection.

What's been done to Western civilization is an absolute disgrace. Anyone who can see all of this destruction, dysfunction, and open disdain for its founding stock and claim it's better than being called "racist" is an enemy without exception. Change is only possible when this mind-controlling terminology is wholly rejected.
