You don't have to work in the trucking industry to know something isn't quite right.
π¨SONAR Updateπ¨
Carrier vetting shouldn't stop the day you onboard someone, and that's why our team expanded SearchCarriers in SONAR:
β
Watch up to 200 carriers (or bulk import)!
β
Pick exactly which changes you want to track!
β
Get email alerts when something changes!
β
Search specific inspections in seconds!
β
Look up a truck or trailer by VIN or plate to confirm the equipment at the dock matches the carrier you booked!
A carrier that checked out fine last year, and got onboarded, can pick up an out-of-service order, change its contact info or go overdue on its MCS-150, and those are often the first signs of risk or fraud.
Reach out to our team for a demo, or read more in our new article below:

A lot of people in the comments have been asking what this is, how am I finding this info, etc. so I put together a quick little demo video of @SearchCarriers' map, and what I look for. Apologies for the voice, I'm still getting over a cold. π€§
Hi Stephen here's an easy one that will generate endless fraud cases for you guys.
The suburbs outside of Cincinnati, OH are loaded with chameleon carrier trucking companies, many of them linked to overseas organized crime gangs responsible for cargo theft, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. Over 4,000 companies in this screenshot alone.

Oh here's something I've never tried. I had @bot go through each of the DOTs using @SearchCarriers' MCP in this cluster and pull their fleet sizes. So it's 1,159 trucks across all the carriers here. Not a lot of places to park those in an apartment complex.

If you are not using @garrett_makes Lineups tool in @SearchCarriers to source capacity in this market you are already working at a deficit.
Pair this with grok + the mcp, custom fields, labels, connections and a dash of elbow grease and you have a top 3 carrier sourcing tool on your hands.
In less than 3 hours.

Context is incredibly important when vetting motor carriers.
Most vetting rules are set up in hopes of catching the bottom tier of the industry, the worst of the worst. We tend to give a hard Yes or No, yet so much more is needed.
Rarely, if ever, is a green check or red X enough. One big red flag for one company may be totally irrelevant for another.
Here's an example using a company that I would trust with my life.
Recent contact changes?
Yes, but irrelevant.
Multiple matching companies by contact, phone number, etc.?
Yes, but irrelevant.
If you don't know why you're saying yes or no to motor carriers, you're NGMI.

Remember that time.. when I grabbed three random strangers in a group chat and said, "y'all need to do a podcast, you are obviously passionate, on the same page, and all the issues this guy can solve because he is a wizard at software engineering"
Then crickets for over a year...
Ugh.. those were the days

Audit Process Records
Build a repeatable audit process for company reviews, with structured questions your team answers before a carrier moves forward. All historical audits can be viewed and downloaded across your team! This one is going to be huge for those trying to implement standards for your team to follow.
A full form builder is available to individuals and team level to define the exact process you need, even if it includes steps outside of SC!

"How do you find this stuff?!"
It really isn't difficult. Nor is it magic.
I use @searchcarriers.
Anyone can look up a USDOT number, an MC number, or an officer's name, or a phone number, or an email address, or an address... just as I do.
I'll even give you a discount code.

Here's a fun little project I built with Claude in 5 minutes. It's an interactive map of all daycare centers in Minnesota.
There are 7,814 registered daycares in the entire state.
There are 4,900 trucking companies just in this same area of Minneapolis.
