NK cells are an important anti-cancer defense, but what happens if they turn into a different cell type?
A new study from @SebScheer @Dr_Nick_Bikes identified a gene without which NK cells turn into a weaker cell type, making them worse at fighting cancer.

After our discovery of DOT1L's role in NK cells bit.ly/3XsfSQc @CellReports, we now published the cherry on top of 7 years of research on DOT1L in the immune system @MonashBDI and @LIH_Luxembourg! @JessicaRunting @DrDThiele @liamckealy bit.ly/3z9jYmg @FnrLux
...followed by @liamkealy and @KimLJacobson discovery of DOT1L's importance in B cells. bit.ly/3xrMrDl
In our review article, we now assess the current literature and highlight challenges and possibilities around the "conductor" DOT1L and its immunomodulatory functions, that may pave the way for innovative therapeutic approaches.

We demonstrate that Histone methyltransferase, DOT1L, limits NK cell conversion to ILC1s, a subset that can be observed in tumors in response to TGF-β and is correlated with poor tumor control @HSudholz

Back home after a wonderful meeting of Functional Epigenomics in Saarbrücken. Going back to @LIH_Luxembourg with many new inspirations and the excitement that understanding and exploiting epigenetic mechanisms in immune cells will be key to solve many problems in the clinic.
