This is very much the case in Australia. Provision of services and supports is dependent on the prison a parent is in. There is no national policy or practice framework #childrenofprisoners
If you haven't already, please take the time to read our new report on the use of ‘Family Contact’ in UK prisons. bit.ly/3paeXQG

As part of @networkcope’s #NotMyCrimeStillMySentence Campaign, Katie, aged 11, chose @coe Article 25 & said “It is important to me because I have bad anxiety and I get scared... I feel seeing my dad or speaking with him in my own home, I’d feel safe and I’d have good thoughts...”

One of the things we hear from most of the children we support is how hard it is not to be able to talk about having a parent in prison, for fear of how people will react. This quote is from a 9 year old boy in a 1:1 session with his worker last week #parentalimprisonment
the children's words as they explored names, strengths and weaknesses of super hero's, children said they wanted to be strong, have the ability to heal and to be invisible, the truth is they are already all of these things children should be heard and seen #parentinprison

What's the most effective way to prevent crime? While deterrence is an essential element of #crimeprevention, the reality is most people don't become involved in crime because of character flaws — it's often a by-product of several factors with a root in repeated trauma. #yyc

We are working on better data systems in SA. PKs (prisoners kids) are one of the most vulnerable cohorts. Great that Second Chances is investing in evidence-based responses to PKs needs.#breakingBadCycles
