Justice and fairness prevailed at today's St. James Baptist Church groundbreaking on Hilton Head Island. Airport regulations forced the historic congregation to move, but a public-private effort secured compensatory funds for a new church and fellowship hall on four nearby acres.

For 40 years, Dean Moss has given his talent and heart to Beaufort County. Last night at the Port Royal Sound Foundation's 12th Annual Night on the Sound, it was my privilege to say thank you. Few people have done more to protect the place we call home. #Lowcountry

In 2009, I was supposed to quit my job and run for Maryland’s First Congressional District. Mark Sanford blew off my resignation meeting to “hike the Appalachian Trail.” When he returned I decided not to run. I don’t know if I would have beat this garbage can of a congressman but I would have done a better job.

Thank you to @SCETV for inviting me to join a Palmetto Perspectives panel on September 24 to discuss healthcare in South Carolina. I appreciated the chance to share my thoughts. Much work lies ahead to reduce costs and improve access, especially in rural areas.

Earlier today I spoke to 600 public- and private-sector leaders in nuclear energy at the SC Nuclear Summit. Billions of dollars in private capital are flowing into our state to meet rising power demand, and we must ensure that growth is safe, reliable, and fair to ratepayers.

My five colleagues listed here, @ValeskiLucy, @ZakKoeske, @sfretwell83, @JAABPhoto and @m0rgan_hughes brought so much value to @thestate and South Carolina. It will be sad to see them leave us. They would be great additions to any newsroom.
This week, members of The State News Guild were among the scores of McClatchy employees who had their jobs eliminated in the latest round of layoffs. These included valuable members of the Columbia newsroom, including:

A utility in West Virginia that signed Trump’s ratepayer protection pledge continues to ask permission to charge existing retail customers so it can build a power plant to serve data centers in the future. Bad-faith acts like this tar all utilities. xitter.cf/michaelgiberso3/status…

South Carolina has spent $690M preparing the Scout Motors site, and Commerce now needs $150M more. I asked the Legislative Audit Council to tell us why, within 120 days. That’s not a refusal to pay. It’s a sequence: find out first, then appropriate. postandcourier.com/opinion/c…

You work hard for your income, and whenever we can leave more of it in your family budget, that’s a win. State and local sales taxes are waived on qualifying school supplies, tech, and clothing this weekend.
