Local taxes and fees on a new 2,000 sq ft home in Colorado range from $24,295 to $101,616. In some communities, costs equal nearly 19% of median home price. These costs shape housing affordability statewide. @CSInstituteCO report: commonsenseinstituteus.org/r…

Several 2026 ballot measures would change Colorado’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights. Voters will decide whether to raise the TABOR limit (Prop NN), adopt a graduated income tax (Amendment 87), and let the state keep certain sales tax revenue instead of refunding it (Prop 137).

I often mention TABOR, which stands for the Tax Payer’s Bill of Rights. Let’s break down what it means and why it matters to Coloradans.

The 2027 session will start with the difficult task of closing a budget gap of about $1.5 billion for the third year in a row. Lawmakers will need to decide which needs are essential and what spending can be reduced. What should the legislature focus on in the next budget?

The legislature is projected to close another $1.5 billion deficit in the 2027 Session, requiring more cuts this year. If we can't rein in Colorado's spending now, what will happen if the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights is removed as a barrier to state spending?

Today I was honored to receive the Common Sense in the Courtroom Award from the Colorado Civil Justice League (CCJL). This award recognizes my commitment to voting against legislation that promotes the excessive and frivolous litigation.

Today I was pleased to join in a legislative tour of ONEOK, a pipeline and fuel storage company based locally in Aurora. It supplies jet fuel to DIA and other energy products throughout Colorado. Thank you to the @ONEOK employees who joined us and provided valuable information.

Colorado ranks 5th in the nation for fatal crashes involving aggressive or careless driving. Nearly 4 in 10 deadly crashes involve speeding, distracted driving, or other unsafe behaviors. That is why focusing on road safety policies was a top priority for me this past session.

It has been a month since legislation I sponsored, SB26-072 (Increased Penalty for Vehicular Homicide & Assault), has gone into effect. Thank you @CBSNewsColorado  and @OliviaYoungTV  for highlighting Alex, the story behind this bill, and the importance of it.

I was excited to attend the Beam Signing & Topping Out Event for DCSD Elementary School 50 in Ridgegate Community. It was officially named Echo Bluffs Elementary. It’s one of two new elementary schools to open in the 2027-2028 school year. Our future is bright!

Thank you Core Electric for having me at your Lunch and Learn focused on legislative issues impacting our communities.  With the rising costs of energy bills in Colorado, it's important that we focus on energy policies that keep services reliable and affordable.

I support the Senior Property Tax Exemption and would support raising the exemption to reflect rising property taxes. Thank you to Rhonda Basey for this lively conversation on the Denver House Call podcast. Watch the Full video: m.youtube.com/watch?v=PCpVE3…

Remember when we stood up to Colorado’s biggest tax hike—a $37B increase over 10 years, or $7,400 per person? They claimed it was all for K-12. In reality, only a fraction went to education; the rest was a TABOR workaround. I spoke out then and will keep fighting these tax hikes.

I toured ClearSpring, a locally owned 503(a) compounding & community pharmacy. Their goal: accessible, high-quality care & specialized services like custom compounding, tailored med management & clinical consults.

The majority party has made it clear: the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights is not a priority for them. In the 2025 special session they stripped small businesses of the 3% vendor fee they kept for collecting sales taxes. TABOR exists to keep legislators accountable & stop overspending.

Coloradans voted to cut income taxes, yet since then, fees have quickly replaced those cuts and then some. Lowering taxes means little if the majority party continues to find new ways to increase costs on Coloradans. We need to make Colorado more affordable.
