Mukai Kohinata, the man who almost took out Itcahi and Shisui at the same time. Mukai was a Konoha Jōnin and ANBU operative. He was not a direct member of the main or branch Hyuga houses, but belonged to the Kohinata family a lineage that split from the Hyuga clan generations prior. Because the bloodline was considered diluted, nobody expected him to possess their signature abilities. However, Mukai secretly awakened the Byakugan in his left eye and mastered the Gentle Fist Desperate for money to pay for his sick child's medical treatment, Mukai began selling Konoha secrets to the Hidden Mist Village. When Danzo Shimura discovered the treason, he sent a young Itachi (around 11–12 years old) and Shisui to eliminate him. During the 2-on-1 battle, Mukai completely overwhelmed the Uchiha prodigies: He sliced through Shisui’s Fire Style jutsu using his Gentle Fist. He bypassed regular Sharingan genjutsu entirely. He tracked down a hidden Itachi using his Byakugan and began shutting down his chakra points. He managed to grab Shisui by the neck and began strangling him while simultaneously fending off Itachi. Just as Mukai was on the verge of killing them, Shisui caught him off guard by activating his Mangekyō Sharingan to trap Mukai in a powerful genjutsu. Mukai had no idea the Mangekyō even existed, which was the only reason the attack succeeded. To prevent himself from being captured and interrogated which would reveal his secrets and endanger his family Mukai used a pre-placed suicide jutsu to cut open his own stomach, choosing death over capture. While Mukai physically dominated most of the fight, Itachi and Shisui technically won the encounter because Mukai ultimately took his own life to escape Shisui's ultimate ocular jutsu. He lost because he wasn't aware of the Mangekyo, if he knew, we wouldn't have Itachi and shisui today.
