In a recent study published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, researchers from IIT Bombay and collaborators from IIT Kanpur and CNCI, Kolkata uncover how collagen accelerates clumping of hormones in the pancreas, identifying a previously unknown diabetes trigger and a potential new drug target. They have identified an important missing link: fibrillar collagen I, a major component of the extracellular matrix. Prof. Shamik Sen from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at IIT Bombay led and oversaw the project. iitb.ac.in/research-highligh…

Under laminar fluid shear, cells deform elliptically, align in flow direction, and rotate. From this, we can infer the frequency-dependent viscoelastic cell properties - quantitatively, accurately, and with high throughput of ~100 cells/sec. bioRxiv biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…

Dear @narendramodi Thank you for inviting suggestions. I have two suggestions: (1) IITs should grow beyond undergraduate teaching places and focus much more on research and innovation. Some efforts are being taken in this direction, but we need to do much more. (1/3).
