Turns out the hard part is convincing the Income Tax Department I actually paid it.

Months later, I'm manually entering my BSR code, challan number, date and amount in a rectification request - so the system can recognise the payment it already has.
Bonus: the original notice had someone else's name against my PAN. 🤦♀️
Government-scale fintech, and reconciliation is still manual.
That's not digitalisation. It's a manual process wearing a website.
