Presented at the OCIN 2026 Conference: Among patients with mild stroke from large-vessel occlusion, 69.4% had a favorable functional outcome at 90 days with endovascular therapy plus medical management, as compared with 50.0% with medical management alone. Full MILD-MT trial results: nej.md/4hWstFc

Over 80% of medical practitioners in India have experienced or witnessed workplace violence, with 92.3% facing verbal abuse and 42.9% suffering physical injuries. Mild symptoms or late arrival need not close the door to thrombectomy. Two NEJM trials highlight the value of imaging selection: ๐Ÿง  MILD-MT: NIHSS <6, โ‰ค24 h, core โ‰ค50 mL and mismatch โ‰ฅ50 mL. EVT improved 90-day mRS 0โ€“1: 69.4% vs 50.0% (NNT 6). Symptomatic ICH: 2.1% vs 1.9%; serious procedural complications: 13.2%. โฑ๏ธ LATE-MT: Selected LVO patients presenting 24โ€“72 h benefited functionally (common OR 1.74), but symptomatic ICH was 4.8% vs 0% and mortality 6.0% vs 1.8%. Assess the vessel and salvageable tissueโ€”not NIHSS or clock alone. Selection and procedural risk matter. Before celebrating this unfunded government directive, we must first ask what it will mean for patients financiallyโ€”and who will ultimately bear the cost of putting it into practice. At present, many hospitals reprocess certain devices and bill patients only for sterilisation. Requiring a new device for every procedure could replace that limited fee with the entire cost of purchasing the device, leading to a significant hike in hospital bills. The burden becomes even heavier when insurance policies exclude particular disposable items, forcing patients to pay the uncovered amount themselves. Patient safety cannot be compromised, but access to healthcare must not be compromised either. Current sterilization procedures are very, very efficient & effective. Requirement for single-use devices should be supported by affordable safety protocols, clear and transparent billing, and sufficient insurance protection. A safety measure can be considered successful only if it safeguards patients without making treatment unaffordable. First start making these expensive devices in India and then pass orders [Eg. No neuro endovascular devices like those used in treatment of stroke are currently manufactured in India] @MoHFW_INDIA @PMOIndia

Before you laud this government order, understand this will massively raise costs which will come for your pocket. Right now many hospitals keep costs low by re-using certain items/devices after sterilization process & only charging for the sterilization. If government insisting on "one-time" use only then each time the full amount of the item at MRP will be charged to patient. Don't forget insurance companies DO NOT cover "disposable items". So these "one time use" items will now shift towards that. Your medical bills will go up. My hospital Medical Superintendent yesterday called for a meeting with all departments to discuss this order and how to move forward. This might be good idea in theory but terribly flawed implementation.
Union health ministry prohibits reuse of single-use devices and disposable surgical items in hospitals across India

Time and again, I hv raised this issue. Another unprovoked assault on a Lady Dr. Assaults on doctors- Govt or in the Pvt Sector is an epidemic in India. Doesn't even happen in Pakistan, B'desh ,Nepal or SL. The Govt of India must evolve a strategy to prevent attacks on Drs.
SHOCKING: Accused Slaps Lady Doctor Inside Police Presence In Wardha Maharashtra, an accused named Qadir Ali slapped Dr. Shraddha Bhumre right inside a primary health center during medical examination. Caught on CCTV this outrageous incident has sparked massive outrage among doctors, who are now demanding strict security and threatening to shut down OPD services

Once again, doctors are put on trial for what they should and should not prescribe. If @MoHFW_INDIA truly believes such criticism is valid, it should simply hand out medical degrees to these people so they can treat themselves and never step inside a hospital again. Sunny Ji, where is the minor illness that genuinely requires 25 investigations? Where is the clinical context, the working diagnosis, and the justification for those 25 tests? Assaults on on-duty doctors are already a never-ending reality in India.
