Yesterday brought the sad news of the passing of Quincy Jones, legendary musician, composer and producer. But what links him with Lili Boulanger, composer of the haunting Psalm 130 we perform next week @SheffCityHall with @the_halle ? 1/2

The answer is Nadia Boulanger. As well as being sister Lili's greatest musical & personal supporter, Nadia taught Quincy Jones composition in the 1950s, giving him some treasured advice: “Your music will never be more or less than you are a human being” (Nadia Boulanger, 1957).

"This was a Requiem performed with focus and energy, held together ably by conductor Kristiina Poska, who preferred fast speeds & tight drama. [...] They sang with concentration & drive, managing proper heft in the Dies irae & impressive agility in the more stately Kyrie fugue."
