On October 10 and 11, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Work Release Program (WRP) conducted a community cleanup along Summit Valley Road in Hesperia. Participants removed two 40-yard dumpsters worth of trash and 30 abandoned vehicle tires, helping improve the community while fulfilling court-ordered service. The Work Release Program provides an alternative to incarceration, allowing participants to give back to their communities while maintaining employment, continuing their education, and supporting their families. This successful cleanup highlights the department’s continued commitment to community partnerships and service.

FONTANA, CA – On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Fontana Police Department’s Traffic Division hosted a Multi-Agency Strike Force Operation (MASFO) focused on commercial vehicle safety and enforcement. The operation brought together commercial enforcement officers from seven law enforcement agencies to conduct inspections and ensure commercial vehicles operating within the city comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations. The operation was conducted in partnership with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Rialto Police Department, Corona Police Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Pomona Police Department, and Irvine Police Department. The primary objective of the operation was to improve roadway safety by identifying unsafe commercial vehicles, enforcing transportation regulations, and reducing the risk of collisions involving commercial trucks and other large vehicles. During the operation, officers and certified commercial vehicle inspectors focused on mechanical safety violations, driver hours-of-service requirements, hazardous materials transportation, vehicle weight restrictions, and other commercial vehicle safety regulations. Officers also worked to identify vehicles operating with defects or violations that could pose a danger to other motorists. As a result of the enforcement operation, participating agencies reported the following: •84 commercial vehicle inspections conducted •41 citations issued •5 unsafe commercial vehicles placed out of service •3 vehicles towed Commercial vehicle inspections play an important role in preventing traffic collisions caused by mechanical failures, improperly secured loads, driver fatigue, and other safety-related violations. Enforcement of vehicle weight restrictions also helps protect city streets and infrastructure from damage caused by overweight commercial vehicles. In addition to enforcement, the operation emphasized educating commercial vehicle operators and the transportation industry about their responsibility to maintain safe vehicles and comply with applicable regulations. The Fontana Police Department remains committed to improving roadway safety through proactive traffic enforcement, education, and partnerships with neighboring law enforcement agencies. Multi-agency operations such as this allow participating agencies to combine resources and specialized training to address commercial vehicle safety concerns throughout the region. The Fontana Police Department thanks the California Highway Patrol and all participating agencies for their assistance and continued commitment to keeping our roadways safe.
