HEADS UP! There's a lot of smoke coming from this fire. The Delta Breeze is likely to pick up this smoke and carry it into the valley.
Based on how bad Sears Point looks, I'd say there's a pretty good chance it smells like smoke this evening in Sacramento.
#CAwx #CAfire @ABC10
This fire is right along the coast so there aren't any good angles from the @ALERTCalifornia cameras.
The smoke is low to the ground and greatly impacting air quality from the coast and inland towards Santa Rosa.

We’re very excited to share that Frec has now surpassed $1 billion in customer assets on the platform. 🚀🚀🚀
The speed of compounding is truly astounding.
It took us one year to reach our first $100 million, another year and a bit to get to $550 million, and less than four months from there to reach $1 billion. And here’s the most surprising metric: we added more than $80 million last week alone.
We always had conviction, but to the rest of the world, this milestone marks the moment Frec goes from “there’s something here” to “that is a real business.” We’ve crossed the chasm. Tax-aware investing delivered directly to customers is here to stay.
We’re deeply grateful to the thousands of customers who placed an enormous amount of trust in us.
And I’m also lucky to be working alongside an incredible team that brings so much grit, customer obsession, and passion to our mission every day.
$10 billion and beyond, here we come!
PS - We’re hiring backend and frontend software engineers, quant researchers, and quant developers. Ping me if interested.

Always great speaking with you @lennysan — had a lot of fun looking back on my most important lessons from building Dropbox over the last 18 years (!) No one teaches you how to be a founder/CEO, but I've found there's a lot you can do to compete with the giants, stay ahead of the learning curve, and sustain yourself for the long haul.
If you think you've heard the @Dropbox story, strap in.
My conversation with @drewhouston is the most real-talk, vulnerable, and special episode I've done in the past two years.
This is why I've started to invite more founders on the podcast—to share stories just like this.
Don't miss this one.

this is a long read, but i had some time to think over dinner and wanted to share a few thoughts and provide a plan forward:
0. i’ve had a lot of very memorable days on the internet over the past 30 years, but this one tops them all. my wife yi and i are unbelievably grateful to the SOL community. as a reminder - 100% of every penny we've made from this, across every kitkat/memecoin, including LP fees will be going directly to rare disease research (minus any tax obligations).
i will work on a way to verify this commitment transparently with the community in the form of donation receipts. thankfully the chain is already publicly auditable.
1. a lot people seem very upset that early traders made a lot of money off of $MIRA. i don't get this at all. they made a good investment early, and got rewarded for it. good on them.
when we originally started our gofundme, we were hoping to contribute maybe $2-300K or so beyond what we donated early this year to hankinson lab for christmas.
now, even if we don't sell a single token more, we're going to send them at least $1M this christmas. that's INCREDIBLE - and it makes such a huge difference. the reality is if those early people didn't make these moves, the lab would be worse off. providing more funding for research is the only thing that matters to me here, full stop.
how much degens make or lose money in the pvp trenches of pump is not something that is any of my business. if you made a lot of money, i'm genuinely happy for you - but please consider donating some of your profits to hankinson lab., if you lost a lot of money, i’m very sorry - but magic internet money is magic internet money.
2. at least a few crazies in mentions think that i was somehow on the “inside” and this entire thing has been some kind of conspiracy - if you're one of them, i just don’t know what to tell you.
i have a day job and it is not degening magic internet money. i run a company funded by a16z called runway.com, and we work on non-crypto finance software for cfos. nowdays, by night i do deep research into craniopharyngiomas and related brain tumors. i literally didn’t have a personal SOL address until yesterday.
crypto wasn’t even a payment option outside of gofundme until folks asked me for one, and when i gave them one it was my ENS. the idea that i would have the time and even know how to do something like this is wildly unbelievable.
3. i am not elon - between running a growing startup, dealing with my daughter’s medical condition, and other obligations, i simply don’t have the bandwidth to manage a crypto anything. so my constraints on a path forward are:
1) to maximize support to rare disease research by providing predictability / trust
2) to do so in the most transparent way possible that helps me sleep well at night
3) to do it in a way that doesn’t take very much of my time to manage.
so here’s the plan: starting in about 12 hours, i will be liquidating $1,000 worth of $MIRA every 10 minutes, perpetually. no more and no less than that. if i change this schedule, i commit to announcing it 24 hours in advance.
if you want to rug it to $0, go for it - at the end of the day we set out to raise $200K and we will end up with at least $1M towards rare disease research.
no matter what, this has been a win for the world. but if it moons, then hankinson lab will get the SOL’s community support for much longer, and that really makes a big difference.
so that’s it! hope that's all pretty simple and reasonable.
yi, mira and i are so unbelievably grateful to you all - each and every one of you. christmas magic was made real this year thanks to all of you. forever grateful.

if you could press a button that cures your child’s brain tumor in exchange for ending your life immediately, every parent would hesitate for zero seconds before fighting to be the first to press it
the cruelest thing is that no such button exists.

Today we’re unveiling @chemistry_fund - a new firm founded by @kshenster, @Mark_Goldberg_ and me. We’re also announcing a debut fund of $350M – dedicated to going all in with a select number of high conviction investments at the Seed and Series A. I couldn’t be more excited to team up with Mark and Kristina after the proverbial lightning bolt struck us all earlier this year: we got in a room (actually, several rooms, and offsites, and underground parking lots) and many working sessions and hummus snacks later, realized we had the exact same vision for how to build a venture firm from scratch (not to mention the chemistry to pull it off 😉). We discovered we were so remarkably aligned on what the industry needs - and let’s face it - what it does NOT need - that we had to burn the boats and build this new thing ourselves.
One thing we were certain of: this new firm would strip away the excess and instead focus maniacally on the true essence - going all in with our founders from the earliest stages. We each said out loud what had been staring us in the face: venture capital isn’t meant to scale. Committing fully and wholeheartedly to each and every one of our investments may not be a recipe for rapid growth, but it’s our north star and built into the very fabric of Chemistry.
All three of us will actively support each investment. We are the portfolio services team. No one else sits between us and our founders. We strive to bring excellence - one of our core firm values - to early-stage investing.
I can’t stress enough how thankful I am to the mentors I’ve been fortunate enough to learn from both inside and outside of Bessemer, the founders I’ve had the pleasure of working with, the seed and angel ecosystem that has served as an amazing sounding board for us along the way, and, finally, the LPs who have taken the plunge with us.
With incredible excitement for what’s to come…

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. Around 40% of adults will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives, according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI). For Sumit Rai, CEO and Co-Founder of Cancer Check Labs, this was the sad reality of his sister passing due to cancer over 14 years ago.
Sumit joined me on the latest episode of The Shobeir Show podcast to discuss his new technology, which detects cancer at the cellular level. They can detect the cancer very early, for example, as early as stage zero or one for breast cancer and stage one for prostate cancer.
How Cancer Check Labs work:
🩸 Blood Sample Collection - The blood test starts with a professional phlebotomist drawing 40 ml of blood (about 4-5 vials).
🧪 Their Labs Filter Your Blood - Your blood sample is sent and filtered in our lab using leading technologies that can isolate tumor cells with our proprietary workflow.
ℹ️ Reviewing the Results - A pathologist reviews the samples and data to determine whether or not tumor cells were detected and the probable source. Every customer receives a board-certified pathology report for their screening.

In other news, we sold Beeper to @automattic. The deal closed on April 1. The next day was my first day as their Head of Messaging!
Beeper, as you know and love it, will continue as an independent team and product within Automattic. Our whole team has moved over, joined by new friends from Texts.com who were acquired last year. Together, we are the most capable set of chat reverse engineers on earth!
This time round feels quite different from my Pebble→Fitbit acquisition experience. As I blogged on the 10 year anniversary of our Kickstarter (medium.com/@ericmigi/why-peb…), basically after almost a decade working on smartwatches, I was kinda out of ideas and ready to move on.
Not this time! After years in beta, Beeper officially launches today. We're just getting going. I have TONS of product ideas that we haven't even started on yet. Chat feels like a bottomless well of potential, haven't even scratched the surface yet. We each use chat apps hundreds of times per day. Each interaction is an opportunity. Chat as a product has been woefully underexplored. Due to platform lock in, there effectively have been no new entrants into the market in the last 10 years. We believe we can sidestep the chicken-and-egg problem that kills new chat companies. Instead, we spend the majority of our time actually building a better chat app, rather than requiring users to spam their contact list with invites just to grow the network.
One of our long term goals is to help the world migrate to an open chat/communication protocol. Imagine 50 years from now - do you think the current set of chat networks will be around? What about email? I have high confidence that we will be emailing til we die (for better or worse). I think open beats closed in the long term.
That's why I'm so excited to join forces with Automattic. @photomatt and his team have built foundational open source software, like WordPress and WooCommerce, that power huge swathes of the internet. I've known Matt for years. He was an early investor and user of Beeper. I've learned over the last 3 years of working in this space that a) it's harder than it looks, b) you need to know who your friends are. With Beeper, Automattic is doubling down on chat, after their acquisition of Texts.com last year. I can't think of a better partner out there for us to work with on our quest to build the best damn chat app on earth.
Read more about the acquisition on our blog: blog.beeper.com/2024/04/09/b…
