True story. You can just make things in America ๐บ๐ธ
Retinal detachment in drag racing stems from extreme negative G-forces (up to 7G+) during parachute deployment at 300+ mph. The sudden stop creates vitreous traction that can tear the retina, especially with age or predisposition.
Mostly deceleration, not launch acceleration.
First widely noted with Don Garlits' 1992 bilateral detachments from a violent chute stop, forcing retirement. Joe Amato faced similar tears in 2000.
Preventions include dual-chute systems to ease peak forces, regular eye exams, early laser treatment of tears, and strong harnesses.

Great video finally taking measuring FFB steering systems and not just relying on opinions. Well done.
