My issue with all the fearmongering going on is it causes people to slowly and discretely abandon their futures. They don’t work toward long term goals because they’ve convinced themselves daily life as we know it will change soon. Then, when nothing happens, they look back and realize they so easily and willfully gave in to nihilism. Why save when AI will hack the banks? Why plan for the future when nuclear war is imminent? It’s almost better to live in complete ignorance of these projected perils and be blindsided by catastrophe than to shape your future around headlines, only to regret it later when life goes on as it always has.
