Dozens of animals at Wildlife Wonderland could be taken away from the caregivers they know and trust if we don鈥檛 raise enough support.
Friends like Steven and Dexter could be separated. Animals who have spent years together could be split apart and sent into an uncertain future.

A Texas county rewrote its animal rules after they moved in. Now it is ordering them to surrender their rescued animals. They have 30 days.
This is happening in Polk County right now.
Wildlife Wonderland is a licensed nonprofit sanctuary for rescued lemurs and other exotic animals. Every animal it cares for was fully legal in Polk County on the day the sanctuary opened. One year later, county officials passed a new order banning all nonhuman primates.
The choice they now face is relocation or confiscation, within 30 days.
What makes this case stand out is how far the order reaches. State law treats four primates as dangerous: baboons, chimpanzees, orangutans, and gorillas. Five county officials have now banned every primate, including a nine-pound endangered lemur that poses no threat to anyone.
The order also contradicts itself. One section bans all primates. Another allows small primates to be kept with USDA certification. They hold that certification. The county intends to seize the animals regardless.
Confiscation is not a safe outcome. There is no county facility equipped to house lemurs. Accredited sanctuaries are full and keeping waiting lists. Across the country, confiscated exotic animals with nowhere to go are routinely euthanized. These are endangered animals they took in because no one else would.
There is also no ordinary way to fight it. Texas counties offer no petition process, no ballot measure, and no recall. No number of signatures can overturn this order. The only people who can reverse it are the five who wrote it.
If a county can do this to one sanctuary, it can do it to any resident. Many of us watched a version of this play out with Peanut. This time, we can act before it is too late.
They need our help.
