a little look back on october :)
went from green and red blobs to my own voxel terrain in unreal. real world cliffs, a sea, and magic to rip the ground up and throw it about. pretty happy with how far it came
November goals: stay tuned for more magic! :)

how i got the sea to feel real :)
Unreal’s built-in water uses gerstner waves, which look a bit too tidy and start repeating up close. so i worked on my own ocean (FFT, for those curious)
it adds up thousands of waves every frame, from long rolling swell down to tiny chop, sized the way real wind makes them (using JONSWAP spectrum). it’s split into 3 layers so (hopefully) you never spot it repeating
the foam isn’t painted on either. it shows up where a wave folds over itself, which is exactly where real waves break, then it drifts off and fades
and depth sets the colour: turquoise over the shallow sand, deep blue where it drops off, and it meets the beach cleanly right down to the pebbles
hope you like!

working on a game where you can mess with the world using magic. the terrain’s my own voxel system in unreal, so anything you rip out of the ground is actually gone from it :)

my first attempt at making the sea feel more real. swapped the flat water for a simulated ocean with swell and whitecaps, finally starting to look like a coastline :)
what do you think it’s missing?

started hooking magic up to my voxel terrain. ripping chunks out of the ground and throwing them about has always been a dream game idea for me :)
what spells would you use to mess with the terrain?

rebuilt my voxel terrain generation in Unreal to use real world data, plus new materials and lighting 🌊
26 oct vs 28 oct. what do you think it’s missing?

been learning voxel terrain in Unreal and it’s finally at the point where i can dig craters and carve out trenches in real time 🕳️
still lots to do, what should i add next? #UnrealEngine #gamedev
Starting to replace the blockout assets with some home grown assets using the kitbuilder tool i made in blender :)
what do you think of the home town and the goblins so far?

havent ever posted up a video of crownroad, so here is some recent gameplay footage i shortened down :) let me know what you think?
are there any features you would want in a medieval trading game?

Heres a speed build of me putting together a industrial style building using the modular pieces i made plus a modular toolkit ive been working on!
my modelling sucks but as a level designer i am learning so much!

Spent the weekend building a modular kit for buildings! inspired by industrial era achitecture :) let me know what you think!
