So, after nearly 9 years at Bleacher Report, the seemingly endless wave of industry layoffs finally came for me. Proud of everything we accomplished in those 9 years, and grateful for the many people along the way who kept my head on straight(ish) and made work pretty rad.

This big poster was at the entrance of the A’s clubhouse at the Coliseum in recent years. Notice the high leg kick and elbow tucked inside the knee, a unique style that kids used to try to emulate. One of the most marvelous and picturesque pitchers in history.

Devastated to learn of the death of John Crumpacker, a close friend for nearly 50 years. He was the sports editor of the Daily Cal (the Cal school paper) when I wandered in as a freshman in 1976 to see if they needed writers. He assigned me to Cal baseball, and a career was born.

I wrote Skip Caray this letter when I was 13 (excuse the typos). I checked the mailbox every day hoping for a reply. It came a couple months later. I still remember opening it. I finally got to meet Skip at a game at Turner in 98 along with my cousin Jake. I was star struck.

Sad to hear of the loss for former @wyo_football Conrad Dobler. Dubbed the dirtiest man in the NFL during his playing days. @nfl Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen had Dobler’s tombstone placed in a graveyard scene for his TV show. Wishing prayers to his family. #cowboytough #nfl

My friend Gwen Knapp died today. She was the most fearless, passionate journalist I’ve ever known. She had a mind so fertile and quick that she’d rethink her ideas & arguments as we were still processing her first torrent of thoughts. She was the best kind of friend. All love. 💜

Gwen was absolutely one of a kind. Talent off the charts, and kindness and generosity beyond measure. The very best of the best. I was not ready for this. I never will be. Shattered. RIP, my friend. 💔😻
Sad to hear of the passing of Gwen Knapp -- such a smart voice for sports readers in Philadelphia and San Francisco for years, then internally as an editor with us at the NYT. Caring and thoughtful, she always pushed for the right thing.
