Yowza, just finished the third Growly book. Review coming soonish. One of those where you've basically known what was going to happen for two books, but still pretty epic.
I just published the Snarf Holiday Gift Guide, with shoutouts to @itspeterbrown, @AsiaCitroAuthor, @Brains_On and many more. snarf.substack.com/p/the-sna…
Netflix's My Father Dragon preview looks fun and cute. Much like Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox, looks like they invented new characters and plot lines to broaden a charming but linear and sometimes thin storyline from the original work. youtube.com/watch?v=0giW36Fb…
I am ever-so-slightly saddened by the choice to have the main characters introduce themselves to each other shortly after meeting, rather than inexplicably waiting until the third book like the source material.
Here's my review of the book series: snarf.substack.com/p/my-fath…

Really sweet review from an old friend of mine.
So proud of these books and it melts my heart that kids enjoy them this much: snarf.substack.com/p/brains-…

A spectacular sight 1225m (4019 ft) beneath the waves off Baja California as EVNautilus encounter the amazing Halitrephes maasi jelly.
Hey parents of #librarytwitter, what are you reading these days (to your kids or yourself)?
I'm now donating monthly to the Clean Air Task Force (@cleanaircatf) and Rainforest Trust (@RainforestTrust). Twenty bucks a month is a small price to pay to feel like I'm doing something good in this wonderful and terrifying world.
No idea why Zootopia is trending, but it's an excellent movie -- one that the grownups can enjoy about as much as the kids.
Interesting to re-read the Harry Potter books to a kid. Both seeing them anew as an adult, in good ways and bad, and experiencing them through someone younger than I ever was when I read them.
Here's what I thought this time about the Chamber of Secrets. snarf.substack.com/p/harry-p…
My review of every show on PBS Kids is that it's a cacophony of sound and color that resolves as you acclimate to a heartwarming show about appreciating science and each other.
Here's my review of the Mercy Watson series and Tales from Deckawoo Drive by @KateDiCamillo.
These two collections are a unique and charming series of simple stories and outlandish characters. snarf.substack.com/p/mercy-w…
The stories manage to laugh at its characters while sincerely loving them for (not in spite of) their foibles.
The Deckawoo Drive series nuances them further, but you'll have to click the link for that snarf.substack.com/p/mercy-w…

Here's my review of Zoey and Sassafras by @AsiaCitroAuthor. snarf.substack.com/p/zoey-an….
Many kids books/shows are very pro-science. Very few actually explain what science is. Z+S accomplishes that while wrapping it all up in a narrative about a lovable family and mythical creatures
Using unicorns and the like isn't just a "dragons = book sales" move -- by bringing in creatures with no medical literature on them, Zoey has to go back to first principles to deal with their issue.
The stories are also high stakes with no bad guys.
