One year before I left my insurance job we had something similar like this happen, it was near the end of COVID and the company was trying to stop the bleed of staff to competition as staff were openly tearing up their no competition clauses as people were furious with the running of the company and how many problems were being ignored. IT did a phishing test about changing rates for Overtime and just about everyone in the company clicked the link I was on a long phone call at the time and didn't read the email. Within an hour the entire eastern seaboard was in full worker revolt when it was discovered it was a phishing test, managers were physically pulled out of meetings by screaming staff, the head of HR literally had her door broken down by her own staff demanding an explanation and the CEO himself got involved because entire call center literally went home in protest. CEO not only had to make an internal apology for the act, but the group CEO in Brisbane got personally involved and had to assure staff throughout the insurance group that no rate changes were coming to overtime and would be staying the same. People began openly refusing overtime shifts and managers began working 7 day workweeks because every time a staff member was put on a weekend shift they simply didn't go and went to work with a competitor.
