Bulls Bucks 10/23 notes: -Bulls can’t make a 3 at all in 1Q… creating pretty good ones too! This turned around in the 2nd quarter haha -Seems like a real effort by CHI to get half court offense that isn’t just a Giddey PNR (to mixed results) -Even with bad offensive games, Caleb Wilson is capable of huge impact plays on defense -The Bucks might be sneaky good on offense? Lots of solid players -Ryan Rollins is so disruptive on defense -Loving the Leonard Miller minutes, any extra big depth is huge for CHI -Great Tre Jones minutes! -Might as well lock in Tyler Herro for 25+ PPG on this Bucks team -Tre Jones over Josh Giddey the last 3 minutes? Tre has been good and Giddy doesn’t look healthy but still surprised Okoro over Matas too -HELLO CALEB WILSON

Cavs Sixers notes 10/22 -Jaylen Brown forcing it some early -Sixers having struggles finding offensive balance early, something they didn’t have an issue with against the Knicks -Cavs offense seems so much for focused and clear on who is creating and who is a complimentary player in the first half -This Cavs roster feels much more versatile lineup wise with Hezonja and Watson as a 3 / 4 -If their frontcourt plays like they did in the first half, the Cavs are a legit legit title contender -Sixers spacing feels really cramped, not enough 3 PT makes but also the Cavs length giving them problems -When things are clicking like they were to start the 2nd half for the Sixers, they look like the scariest team in the East -The Sixers are devastating in transition, same thing they did against the Knicks -Huge close to the third for the Cavs behind Hezonja?? -Really like how Edgecombe has fit so far.  Acts like he belongs in a good way -Embiid takeover in the 4th was crazy -Embiid’s rim protection has been a real factor, need that sustain all season -I need Mitchell to want to go get the ball more here late -Jaylen Brown takeover now, Philly has so many ISO options when they’re cooking -Really cool to see Maxey shine even amongst this big 4 -Donovan Mitchell are you okay??

Timberwolves Heat 10/22 notes: -The easy offense LaMelo creates is such a difference maker for them -MIN getting up 50 3s is insane, half of them from Ant/LaMelo -This looks like dominant Giannis from the beginning of last year, unfortunately the Heat also looked like last years Bucks -Love MIN getting other guys to set ball screens that aren’t Gobert -Perfect Kuminga game - made plays on D, hit some 3s, gave them good size -Ant might be my favorite player in the league to watch when he’s cooking -Could see MIA offensive rebounding causing a lot of issues for teams that aren’t MIN -Bam looked pretty uncomfortable on offense alongside Giannis -I really like Davion Mitchell, but I wonder if he is overextended in this role -MIA offense cratered in the 1st when Giannis went out, have to find solutions to that Portis was the first solution they tried, eh -Ayo is such an excellent 3rd guard option for MIN, if they can keep him as a bench guy it helps their rotation so much -MIN counting on growth from Beringer, need more from him! -Surprised Fontecchio only got 3 minutes, thought they could use his spacing -Don’t think MIA should get away from Bam as an offensive hub, looks most comfortable that way

Wizards Bucks 10/22 notes: -Washington crowd was READY -Some really bad Trae early in the 1st -Kyshawn George is THE difference maker for this team -Surprised the Bucks didn’t start Ware in this matchup -AD was LOCKED IN… great to see this version of him again Love how they used him as an offensive hub rather than just a roller -Did not expect to see early Middleton minutes -Taylor Jenkins might be able to cook with this roster Lots of players in the rotation, playing fast, sharing the ball -Ayton will be a good 3rd big for WAS and a nice option when AD is out -Burries looks like a 5 year pro already, hope they prioritize his development -2nd quarter Wiz lineup: George, Tre Johnson, Middleton, Ayton, Davis Love trying new things with the lineups, gives George room to breath as a creator -AD looks comfortable taking 3s, a little bit of a threat would go a long way -Kyshawn please stay out of foul trouble! -Don’t agree with Ament playing zero minutes, he can’t play over Dieng and Kuz?? -Bilal 4 STLs and 2 BLKs - big time make or break season for him

Rockets Mavs 10/22 notes: -Can we please bring back white uniforms at home? The block red vs block blue hurts my eyes -Mavs up 5-0 to start, lose the rest of the half 70-33 -Love that Flagg continues to take pull up jumpers -FVV as an organizer is such a difference maker for HOU -KD is timeless -Any Mavs lineup without Flagg or Kyrie (happened twice in the 1st half) is going to be really tough to watch  -Rockets when they’re making 3s look like a legit contender -Everything looks tough for Risacher, Mavs need him! -FVV-Bogi-Smart is such a huge guard rotation upgrade compared to last year for HOU -The Mavs scored only 2 points the last 6 minutes of the first half??? 36-51 HOU 6:00 2Q no Flagg or Kyrie out there Seems like a rotation issue that needs to be fixed

My notes for Grizzlies Jazz 10/22  -Grizzlies are a real basketball team, I am already too low on them -MEM front court is a problem (complimentary) Worst case matchup for Jazz without Nurk -Jazz playing JJJ and Mark at 4 and 5 early, necessity or real thing? -The Go Go Grizzlies! Pace is insane 1Q it didn’t look great, going to be volatile Any shot is a good shot in their mind -Keyonte George will 100% be worth that contract -Jazz up 28-19 with 1 minute left in the 1st quarter, Grizzlies win the rest of the game by 29 -Boozer is already so good, 2-15 but I loved 20 different plays he made -Jerami Grant is an underrated pickup for MEM -Very intrigued by Ace Bailey especially on defense

Tweet of the year contender
I'm being told the Boston Celtics are playing THE FIRST GAME of the NBA season at 3:00pm ET because the court is reserved for a 65 year old+ pickleball tournament at 7:00pm. smh

No reason to be in a hurry with restricted free agency If AB is awesome this year, you re-sign him and move Suggs or Bane elsewhere If he is just okay, try to get him back on a value deal (and maybe still move Suggs)
An extension for Orlando’s Anthony Black is “unlikely at this current juncture” and appears headed towards restricted free agency, per @TheSteinLine. “The Magic have concerns about the long-term financial obligations they have already stacked up by signing Jalen Suggs to a lucrative extension in addition to frontcourt stalwarts Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner and summer of 2025 marquee trade acquisition Desmond Bane. … All of which means Black, barring a shift in the state of negotiations over the next week-plus, could well have to face restricted free agency next summer despite his rising stature.” marcstein.substack.com/p/the…

Lots of people seem confused about why Zach isn’t writing for The Ringer My guess would be that’s not what they hired him for (and potentially don’t value him for) and he wants the freedom that a substack provides Regardless, great to have him back writing NBA

Regardless of logistics I do find it funny that this implies the Dream org didn’t think they had enough of a chance at the Finals to think ahead and book an arena
Literally not how any of this works. - The Atlanta Hawks ownership group does not own the Atlanta Dream - State Farm Arena was booked on the 22nd with a concert and 24th with a game - An NBA team cannot just “give up” a game to accommodate another event

I get it, State Farm Arena has other events to prioritize and their chance at the Finals a few weeks ago were slim But a 3500 person arena for a Finals game is tough
