Bill Spellane brought StarCube to the New England States Nuclear Policy Summit in Lowell. His first slide: "This is not a reactor presentation." The real question is not which reactor wins. It is why people and businesses want reliable power, and how it gets built. #advancednuclear

Advanced nuclear is becoming a regional conversation in New England. On September 30, leaders from all six New England states will come together for the 2026 New England Regional Nuclear Policy Summit to explore the role advanced nuclear can play in our region’s energy future. The conversation will cover everything from safety and community engagement to regional benefits and real-world use cases. It is exciting to see New Hampshire and its neighbors working together to explore how advanced nuclear can contribute to a more reliable and affordable New England grid. New Hampshire electricity bills are going up again. Since new rates took effect on August 1, many Granite Staters are seeing monthly bills increase by roughly $6–$18, with higher natural gas prices, extreme winter weather, and exposure to the daily wholesale market all contributing. It is an important reminder that energy affordability is not just about producing cheap electricity. Price stability matters too. A more diverse energy mix with reliable, fuel-secure generation can help reduce exposure to the volatility of global fuel markets and extreme weather. For New Hampshire, the conversation around new generation is ultimately about more than adding megawatts. It is about building a more reliable, predictable, and affordable energy future. A message from @GreentownLabs CEO @GeorgieMIT at last week's EnergyBar stuck with us: “The question must be… how do we build an energy system that is more abundant, more reliable, more affordable and much cleaner.” We couldn not agree more. The future of energy should not be a choice between reliability, affordability, and cleaner generation. The opportunity is to build technologies that deliver all three. That is a challenge we are excited to be working on. Source: Greentown Labs EnergyBar, Opening Remarks - Georgina Campbell Flatter #PowerToThePeople #AdvancedNuclear #EnergySecurity #EnergyInnovation

One of the biggest shifts in nuclear is not happening inside the reactor, it is happening around the business model. Companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Meta are not just buying electricity. They are signing long-term agreements that help make new nuclear projects financeable. While these agreements are driven by AI demand today, they will also help rebuild the financing, supply chains, and construction experience needed to make future nuclear projects more efficient and accessible for everyone. Sometimes, the biggest innovation is not new technology, it is a new way to finance it. Source: forbes.com/sites/kensilverst… #PowerToThePeople #AdvancedNuclear #EnergySecurity #GridReliability

For nearly 15 years, U.S. electricity demand remained relatively flat. That is now changing. Meeting that demand requires more than just building power plants. Generation, transmission, and distribution all have to expand together. The future of energy is not about one technology replacing another, it is about building an electric system that is reliable, resilient, and ready for what is next. That is why conversations about infrastructure are becoming just as important as conversations about generation. US data center load went from 23 GW in 2023 to 42 GW this year. Nobody added 19 GW of firm capacity to the grid in that window. That gap is the entire case for generating power where it gets used. Source: DOE / EIA 2026 data center demand figures

The used nuclear fuel produced from supplying one person’s lifetime of electricity can fit inside about a single soda can. It’s an incredible reminder of just how energy-dense nuclear fuel really is. Great visual from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy. #PowerToThePeople #AdvancedNuclear #EnergySecurity
Small pellet. Huge energy. 🤯 One uranium fuel pellet packs more power than you might guess.

What does "grid reliability" actually mean? At its core, grid reliability means having an electric system that delivers power when and where it is needed, even when unexpected events occur. According to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), grid reliability depends on two key elements: ⚡ Reliable operation – The grid must be able to withstand unexpected disturbances, such as the loss of a power plant or transmission line, without causing widespread outages. ⚡ Resource adequacy – The electric system must have enough generation available to meet consumer demand, both today and as electricity needs continue to grow. As our grid evolves to support AI, electrification, advanced manufacturing, and population growth, reliability is not just about generating more electricity; it is about ensuring the right mix of resources is available when they are needed most. Nuclear generates nearly 1 in every 5 kilowatt-hours of electricity in the United States. As demand continues to rise, expanding our energy mix with reliable, carbon-free nuclear power will be an important part of meeting tomorrow’s needs while keeping costs low. Just remember that lightly spent nuclear fuel is commonly referred to waste. Still highly useful.

A nuclear renaissance isn't built when a reactor is designed. It's built when financing, supply chains, customers, and projects start aligning. The DOE's reported $17.5B financing initiative for new AP1000 reactors is significant not just because of the dollars involved, but because of what it represents: a shift from talking about nuclear to deploying it. The industry's biggest challenges are no longer limited to reactor design. Financing, supply chains, permitting, long-lead equipment, and securing committed power buyers are becoming the critical pieces of the puzzle. One theme continues to emerge: offtake is becoming the currency of nuclear. The projects that secure long-term demand and can execute repeatedly at scale will be the ones that move forward. It's encouraging to see momentum building around the practical realities of deployment. The future of nuclear won't be defined by concepts alone; it will be defined by execution. Another signal that advanced nuclear is continuing to gain momentum globally. Rolls-Royce SMR has been selected to deliver three SMRs for Sweden's first new nuclear power plant in more than 40 years. Beyond the project itself, what's notable is the growing number of countries moving from discussions and feasibility studies toward actual deployment commitments. As energy demand grows and nations prioritize energy security, reliability, and decarbonization, advanced nuclear is increasingly becoming part of long-term energy strategies. The future of nuclear will be built project by project; and announcements like this demonstrate that momentum is continuing to build. New Hampshire is taking another step toward exploring the future of advanced nuclear energy. From June 23–25, the NH Department of Energy will host stakeholder sessions examining how advanced nuclear technologies could support the state's long-term energy needs, including topics such as financing, regulation, infrastructure, and deployment strategies. The discussions will help inform a statewide nuclear roadmap aimed at strengthening energy reliability, affordability, and security. The first two days will focus on stakeholder discussions, while June 25 will feature an open mic session where citizens can share their perspectives and provide public input. 📍 NH Department of Environmental Services, 222 International Drive, Suite 175, Portsmouth, NH 03801 📅 June 23–25, 2026 Learn more: energy.nh.gov/sites/g/files/… #PowerToThePeople #AdvancedNuclear #EnergySecurity #NewHampshire

Advanced nuclear continues to move from concept to reality. Antares Nuclear's successful criticality test of its Mark-0 microreactor marks an important milestone not just for the company, but for the industry as a whole. Achievements like this demonstrate real hardware, real fuel, and real progress toward deployable microreactors. What's particularly notable is the collaboration between industry, the U.S. Army, and the Department of Energy to advance energy resilience and national security. The future of advanced nuclear will be built one milestone at a time. Source: army.mil/article/293057
