Could there be Klingons in our future? Let's hope so! Go vote! 😆 #Amalgaverse
Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 2.1 - Escape Velocity) #Amalgaverse
The Enterprise shudders against the gravitational pull as Thor’s counter-field takes hold. Her main deflector brightens, projecting a cone of light ahead of the ship. Inside it, the warped starlight straightens, and a corridor of calm space slowly opens, narrow and trembling at the edges.
Kirk orders full impulse. The Enterprise presses forward, the deck shaking as her saucer pushes into the corridor.
From engineering, Scotty warns that the deflector is overheating and the field won’t last much longer.
“Ninety seconds,”Data reports.
The hull groans. A console sparks.
The saucer is in calm space now, but nacelles are still outside, and without them there is no warp.
“Thirty seconds.”
The nacelles slide across the threshold.
“Warp speed. Now!”orders Kirk.
The Enterprise leaps to warp. Behind her, the corridor collapses and the black hole is left with nothing.
Scotty reports: “Deflector’s scorched, Captain, but she held. Took everything she had, mind. I’ll need a day with her before she does anything that fancy again.”
With Harven Zax and his party safely aboard, the Enterprise sets course for the rendezvous on the other side of the expanse. Starfleet’s deadline leaves just under fifty-five hours to get there.
There are three ways to go, none of them safe.
A) The Klingon corridor. It’s the fastest route, a straight warp run with hours to spare. It passes through the border territory of a Klingon Great House that purportedly wants Zax dead.
B) The frontier. A long warp detour around Klingon space that eats deep into your margin. The space it crosses belongs to the Orion Syndicate and is full of bounty hunters who know exactly what Zax is worth.
C) The expanse. The shortest line on the map, but gravity shear makes warp impossible inside, so the ship has to cross at sublight and will arrive with almost no time to spare. Nobody patrols it, which avoids the Klingons and the Syndicate, but there’s no backup to rely on if anything goes wrong.

McKay needs more votes. Don't you want to try slingshotting around a black hole? #Amalgaverse
Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 1.7) – Escape Velocity #Amalgaverse
With an assist from the tractor beam, the jumper and its passengers make it safely back into the Enterprise’s shuttlebay. But the rescue has come at a cost. The Enterprise has been drawn dangerously close to the black hole.
“Captain, the hull is under tremendous stress,”reports Pilot. “The ship cannot hold this position for much longer.”
Kirk orders full impulse. The ship shudders, but the gravitational pull is too strong.
Warp is out of the question. This deep in the gravity well, space is curved too steeply for a normal warp field to form, and the attempt would tear the field apart, and the ship with it.
Data, back at his station on the bridge, delivers the verdict: “Captain, at our current rate of drift, we have eleven minutes and forty seconds before escape becomes impossible by any means.”
“Then let’s not waste any of them,”says Kirk. “Ideas.”
The resident nerds brainstorm and come up with three.
Carter pitches the first: “Sir, a low-level warp field around the ship would reduce our effective mass. The black hole’s grip on us would weaken, and impulse could finally pull us clear. Then, once we’re far enough out, we go to warp. But the calibration has to be perfect. If the field destabilizes this close, we lose it, and the ship along with it.”
McKay has a bolder and, in his opinion, better suggestion: “Or we stop running from it. We dive towards the ergosphere, catch the black hole’s spin, and get flung out faster than we went in. Absolutely brilliant in its elegance, but potentially catastrophic if my math is even slightly off. Which it isn’t.”
Thor offers a third option: “Your deflector array can be modified to project a counter-field ahead of the ship. Within it, space will be flat enough for your warp drive to function. It will, however, place considerable strain on your systems.”
Time is running out and the event horizon looms ever closer. Which plan do you go with?
A) The warp bubble. Carter’s slow steady climb out on impulse, if the calibration holds.
B) The slingshot. McKay’s dive towards the ergosphere for a faster way out, if his math is right.
C) The counter-field. Thor’s corridor lets you jump straight to warp, if the ship’s systems can take the strain.

Yay! We saved Dunsel! 🥳 Now, will we save the mercenaries? There is T to be had for sure! #Amalgaverse
Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 1.6) – Point of No Return #Amalgaverse
Jack considers the robot for a moment, then jerks his head towards the jumper: “Come on.”
Everyone piles aboard, and the jumper eases out of the cruiser’s bay. But as soon as it does, the black hole takes hold. Jack pushes the thrusters to full, but the jumper can’t gain ground. Slowly but surely, it starts sliding back towards the event horizon.
Data, at the co-pilot’s station, notes: “Colonel, we are currently losing approximately four point three seven meters per second.”
“I must insist we jettison all nonessential mass!”shouts Robespierre, eyeing Dunsel.
“Thanks for volunteering,”says Jack, “but we’re not there.” He throws Robespierre a look back over his shoulder. Pointed: “Yet.”
That shuts up the Federation official.
Back on the Enterprise, Pilot reports from his cradle: “Captain…the jumper’s engines are at maximum, yet it continues to lose ground. At this rate, it will be past the point of no return in a matter of microts.”
“Tractor beam,”orders Kirk. “Lock on and bring them home.”
The tractor beam engages, takes hold of the jumper, and a tug of war begins. The Enterprise strains against the black hole’s pull, but slowly, meter by meter, she starts winning, drawing the jumper back toward her.
At tactical, Carter looks up from her console: “Sir, the mercenary shuttle is almost at the event horizon. I’m reading two life signs aboard. I can get a transporter lock, but not for long.”
Over the comm, Harven Zax wastes no time: “Leave them! Let’s the black hole have those gormless scoundrels! They came to drag me off, and I’ll not weep to see them dragged off instead!”
G’Kar is inclined to agree: “No one becomes a mercenary expecting to die in bed, Captain. This is the end they chose. It would be impolite to interrupt.”
Garak sees it differently: “Dead men tell no tales, Captain, and I suspect that these two have a rather interesting one.”
What’s your call?
A) Beam them aboard. Find out who hired them, at the cost of bringing two armed hired guns onto your ship.
B) Let them fall. Keep the Enterprise free of hostile strangers, but whatever they know goes with them.

Oh noes! A super cute robot could get left behind. What! Not on my watch! #Amalgaverse
Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 1.5) - "Dunsel" #Amalgaverse
Over Robespierre's protests, Jack orders everyone to fall back to the bay. You're abandoning ship.
Once there, you're, about to board the puddle jumper, when you hear something from out in the corridor. You throw a look to the open airlock.
The ship’s battered utility robot peeks in, ducks out, then quickly clanks into the bay and stands there, making his presence known.
“Hey, Dunsel!”says Milo, lighting up for the first time. “Want to come with us?”
“Out of the question,”snaps Robespierre. “That rust bucket must weigh upwards of 60 kilograms! An unacceptable risk.”
“There is no need to mass shame,”says Data, coming to the little droid’s defense. Then, he swings a look to Jack.
What’s the call?
A) Leave him behind. Factor the cold equations: the extra weight makes the flight back all that much more difficult and dangerous.
B) All aboard! Give the little guy a lift and save him from going down with the ship

I didn't care about Harven before, but now that I got a glimpse and we're saving him... win-win! 🤣 #Amalgaverse
Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 1.4) - "Dramatis Personae" #Amalgaverse
Jack eases off the throttle and noses the jumper into the debris field, following Data’s plotted course one fragment at a time. It’s careful, painstaking flying, and by the time they clear the field without a scratch, the cruiser has drifted noticeably closer to the event horizon.
You board the cruiser and find four passengers waiting.
The first is your charge, the heavy-set Harven Zax, adorned in the finest Naxulari silks, who greets you with a boisterous: “Hail and well met, sirs! I had begun composing my eulogy, and I assure you, it would have been magnificent.” Then gesturing grandly to the airlock: “Let us board your ramshackle rattletrap and away!”
The second is Harven’s hard-eyed bodyguard, Lucinda Shockley, six foot four and well-armed. She says nothing, merely watches.
Third is Harven’s protégé, Milo, a meek but warm young man who keeps to the edges.
Fourth is the Federation official Oswin Robespierre, clutching a sealed diplomatic pouch, who makes it clear he’s furious it took the Enterprise this long to arrive and demands you save the ship.
What do you do?
A) Buy time. Have the Enterprise tractor the cruiser to slow its fall while Data works at dropping the shroud, then beam the passengers to safety and fly the jumper back. But the clock is ticking, and the tractor beam drags the Enterprise closer to the black hole.
B) Pack the jumper. Load everyone aboard and fly back to the Enterprise. It’s quick, but a fully loaded jumper fighting the black hole’s gravitational pull is no sure thing.

We got debris! #Amalgaverse
Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 1.3) - "The Crossing" #Amalgaverse
The jumper leaves the shuttlebay and swings toward the cruiser. The black hole’s pull keeps dragging it off its line, and O’Neill has to keep correcting to hold course.
Data informs Jack: “Colonel, I am detecting fourteen fragments of debris from the cruiser’s damaged thrusters on an intercept course.”
“Shields gonna hold?” asks Jack.
“Without a doubt,” responds Data. “Provided we do not hit anything.”
Jack considers this, then shoots Data a look: “Was that a joke?”
“More of a wry observation,” answers Data. A beat. “Colonel Carter says my timing is improving.”
“Here’s a tip for you,”says Jack. "Never take comedy advice from someone who tells physics jokes.”
Data, deadpan: “I am reading a book about anti-gravity. It is impossible to put down.”
Jack sighs. “Gonna have a talk with Carter when we get back."
How to proceed?
A) Punch through. Ride the shields and take the hits to save time, but at the risk of damaging the jumper.
B) Thread it slow. Plot a course around the debris while the cruiser drifts ever closer to the event horizon.
C) Clear a path. Launch drones to blast the wreckage, but every drone you spend now is one fewer you’ll have later.

Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 1.1) - "The Rescue" #Amalgaverse
Captain’s Log – Stardate Unknown. We are approaching coordinates 188 mark 44 to take aboard and transport a man named Harven Zax. He’s a broker who has spent years selling secrets to anyone with the latinum for them, and by all accounts he has finally sold one too many. Three separate parties are hunting him, each for reasons of their own. Starfleet wants him delivered alive, and they’ve left the details to us.
The Enterprise drops out of warp. Onscreen you glimpse a black hole in the distance, two ships drifting toward it. The nearer one is your target, a luxury cruiser. The farther one, a mercenary shuttle, is smaller and has drifted deeper, slipping toward the point of no return.
Kirk hails the cruiser. A man who introduces himself as Harven Zax answers, rumpled and indignant that a man of his importance could die somewhere this shabby. He lays out the situation: his engines are dead, and the unmarked ship farther in belongs to a mercenary crew that came to snatch him and cut it too close. They’ll hit the event horizon well before he does, which he considers his one consolation.
Getting him off that ship is the problem. His cruiser is running an automated anti-abduction shroud, a defensive field built to stop exactly this kind of snatch. It switched on when the mercenaries closed in and locked in place when the power failed. The Enterprise can’t beam through it, and the black hole’s pull is too strong for a tractor beam to drag the cruiser clear.
The jumper can make the crossing and, if it comes to it, carry everyone back itself. But every minute spent alongside the cruiser drags it deeper into the gravity well, and a fully loaded jumper climbing back out is no sure thing.
Data proposes another way: “Captain, if we close to tractor range, I believe we can slow the cruiser’s descent. We will not be able to pull her free; the gravitational gradient is too steep. But if Mr. Scott holds the lock from engineering, I can assist Colonel Carter and Doctor McKay in bringing down the shroud from here. I should note that it will likely bring the Enterprise closer to the event horizon than I would recommend. Our margin for error would be four minutes and twelve seconds.”
Sheppard counters: “Or I just fly the jumper over and we find a way to switch that thing off by hand. If we can’t, we all pile in and ride home together. Getting there’s easy. Getting back’s the interesting part.”
Whose advice do you follow?
A. Risk the jumper and an away team. Board the cruiser and bring everyone back, shroud or no shroud.
B. Risk the Enterprise and use the tractor beam. Hold the cruiser while Data, Carter, and McKay try to crack the shroud from the Enterprise.

Captain’s Log – Stardate Unknown
Our first mission in this universe put a crew drawn from different realities to the test, and they acquitted themselves well, frankly better than I had any right to expect of people who were strangers to one another weeks ago. And we came away with more than we bargained for – a clue left by the entity we encountered on that derelict freighter, the signature of its own crossing into this reality. It is one small piece of a much larger pattern that may one day show us the way home. We intend to find the rest.
The hum of the warp core fades as the Enterprise-D drops out of warp, and Ops brings up the three contacts still outstanding from your arrival in this sector:
CONTACT ONE – A scrambled tight-beam transmission intercepted by the communications array, passing through this sector on an encrypted Ferengi commercial channel. Ops has partially decoded the manifest: a shadow auction for Artifact Omicron-8, provenance heavily redacted. Its appended energy signature matches no commercial technology on record. It reads, partially and imperfectly, like an illicit subspace weapon outlawed under the Khitomer Accords. (The Heist)
CONTACT TWO – Starfleet priority channel, addressed directly to Captain Kirk. Locate and extract Harven Zax, a dangerous intelligence broker, currently aboard a disabled Vespian cruiser at coordinates 188 mark 44, and deliver him to a rendezvous point at the edge of the Expanse within sixty hours. He is wanted, arguably, dead or alive, by three different groups: the Romulans, the Orion Syndicate, and a Klingon Great House. (The Delivery)
CONTACT THREE – A lateral sensor sweep reports a complete absence of subspace comm traffic from Kirin Outpost Gamma-3, a Federation research installation on the Expanse’s rim. Gamma-3 has a crew of twenty-three and files automated status reports every four hours. The last confirmed report is seventy-five hours old. The station’s emergency beacon is not active. There is no debris field. Simply… silence. (The Fracture)
Three crises. One ship. No backup.
